What you need to know about pop open cat carriers
In this section, I will share with you some of the top benefits/features of these pop-open carriers. This will help you to make more of an informed decision.
- Collapsable design (for storage)
- Easy to clean
- Secure zipper
- Sizing (Ideal size for your kitty)
Collapsable design (for storage)
The reality is, you will not be needing your cat carrier all the time, right. So, when you have those periods of time when you want to store it away, you need to make sure it has been designed to not only collapse down easily but also have a small profile so that you can store it almost anywhere, are you with me?
Easy to clean
One of the important features is cleaning. Inevitably it will need cleaning, right? So, it needs to have simple access and more importantly, the type of material that lends itself to a quick wipe down, without damaging it, are you with me?
Secure zipper
While you are carrying your kitty around in one of these carriers, you do not want to be worrying if she will escape out of it and go missing. Therefore, a simple locking zip mechanism will save you from panicing.
Obviously, I am not talking about Fort Knox here, just enough to keep her from falling out or messing with the zip and accidentally falling, are you with me?
My best 3 pop open cat carriers (Kitty City Alternatives)

For each item I will give my review explaining exactly what I liked and did not like, to make your decision easier.

Pros:
- Simple to clean (removable wires)
- Nicely packaged (I love this!)
- Lightweight
- Easy to assemble
- Stores easily (Collapses well)
- Great ventilation
- Good size (holds up to 15 pounds)
- Secure zipper (prevents escape)
Cons:
- Pops quite fast (be prepared)
- Bigger cats will struggle to fully stand up
- Difficult to fold up (Instructions not clear)
- The bottom is quite flimsy (recommended for short trips, vets, etc)
What I like about this carrier
Firstly, just look at this carrier, looks good, right? Well, that was my thoughts when I first set eyes on it. I also felt that it was well packaged. From a more practical perspective though, it is simple to clean. The material is easy to deal with.
The pop-up design makes it simple to get this up and running in no time at all. And, it is really lightweight, so if you are off for a short trip somewhere, this will be ideal.
This is also improved with the great ventilation that it comes with. So, you can rest assured that she can feel comfortable, while you are transporting her.
When you have finished using it for a period of time it makes storage a doddle. Meaning, it breaks down (more on this later) and can be stored away easily in your home.
While she is in transit, there are some zippers provided that can be securely locked, to prevent her escaping and hurting herself. Which is reassuring.
I also appreciate the fact that the size is perfect for most cats. In fact, the manufacturer claims it can support cats up to 15 pounds.
In summary, if you are looking for a secure, aesthetically pleasing carrier that has great ventilation, then look no further.
What I do not like about this cat carrier
As much as I have talked this carrier up, I have to be honest, it’s not perfect. Firstly, they don’t call it a pop-up carrier for no reason, meaning, it will pop-up with some speed, so be prepared.
And, on the opposite side, meaning when you need to collapse it, I found this a bit tricky, but, not sure if that’s just me. And, the instructions did not really make it any easier either.
Also, earlier I mentioned its ideal for cats up to 15 pounds, right? Well, you may find that bigger cats will struggle to fully stand up in this. Not a big issue to be fair, but just saying.
Last thing, regarding the bottom of the carrier. I just found this a bit flimsy. Not a big concern, but it’s worth mentioning.
02. Necoichi pop open cat carrier

Pros:
- Simple to store (Folds up flat)
- Nice stylish design
- Easy to carry
- Cleaning is simple
- Lightweight
- Strong (Up to 17 pounds)
- Zipper Security (Helps to keeps her safe)
Cons:
- Quite tricky to package back up (break it down)
- Hard to keep it propped open
- Quite flimsy
- Instructions are not helpful
What I love about this carrier
This carrier by Necoichi is easy on the eye if you know what I mean? Great design, and will make you feel proud as you carry around your kitty in this.
With the cute handles, it makes it a cinch to carry, meaning its simple to carry around with you. This is also made easier with its lightweight design.
When it comes to storage, it also ticks all the boxes. Why? Well, it can be collapsed down flat and stored away quite easily. So, when you don’t need it, there is no concern, are you with me?
The fact that it is lightweight and easy to carry may make you feel that it is not strong or secure, right? Well, this is not the case. It can keep her secure with the locking zippers and strong material.
In summary, this is the ideal carrier for cat owners that need a super lightweight carrier that will still keep their kitty safe and secure in transit.
What I do not love about this Necoichi cat carrier
One of my issues with this carrier is the difficulty to break it down. Maybe it’s just me, I am not sure. But, either way, this could be made easier if the instructions were a bit more helpful, in my opinion.
Earlier I complimented this device based on the fact that it is strong and secure, remember? Well, a risk of sounding like I am contradicting myself, I wish to comment on how flimsy it is.
Yes, the material is strong, but it is still light and flimsy if that makes sense? This doesn’t mean I do not rate it, it’s just an observation. My point is this. Its more suited for short trips, rather than around the world tour, if you get my drift?

- Great ventilation
- See-through Windows (Helps anxious cats)

What I appreciate about this A4Pet carrier
This offering by A4Pet is nice and compact and lightweight. I like this because it makes it ideal for quick trips to the vets, etc. Are you with me?
And, although it’s compact and lightweight, it is still strong and can help to reduce the chances of your kitty putting scratch holes in it.
On the topic of holes, in a slightly different context, I want to mention its ventilation holes. They definitely do the job and keep her ventilated in transit.
This is complemented with its windows that allow your kitty to see out while you are moving. Believe it or not, just these small things can help to keep an anxious cat more comfortable, in some cases.
For most cats, the size of this is ideal. With the manufacturer stating that it can carry cats up to approx 15 pounds.
When it comes to storage, no issues here. Why? Well, it can easily be collapsed and stored neatly away in your cupboard or other suitable location, are you with me?
One of the features I like about this is the ease of access. This also helps when you need to clean it out by the way. This is simply because of the front access door that flaps down and makes life easier.
In summary, this pop-open carrier is ideal for cat owners that like a more formal design that is practical, lightweight and simple to clean.
What I do not appreciate about this A4Pet cat carrier
As most of these carriers, this A4Pet carrier is more suited to short journeys. If you are planning a big journey I would say this is not ideal.
Also, if you have a large cat, over 15 pounds, then forget it, this is really not the carrier you should be considering.
