My guide to Leather Furniture Protection from cats
Before you decide on the best option for you it’s worth spending a few moments reading this. I will explain some of the best features and benefits to look out for when you decide to pick up a protector. Here are a few…
- Protects your leather (and other surfaces)
- Waterproof
- Simple to set up (No tools required)
- Strong & durable
- Easy to clean
Protects your leather (and other surfaces)
It goes without saying that the protector of your choice must be able to protect your leather well. But ideally. it will protect other surfaces, not just leather. Such as wood, fabric, etc.
Waterproof
Scratching is one thing, but if your kitty decides to spray this protector, it is good if it is waterproof. This will make the cleanup easier.
Simple to set up (No tools required)
Not sure about you but I like things that are easy to get set up. Therefore, the protector of your choice should make this simple.
Strong & durable
This protector will have to deal with some aggressive cats at times, so it needs to be strong and durable. Being claw-proof is an absolute must for this.
Easy to clean
The best protector will be simple to clean. This should be as simple as giving it a quick wipe down, without anything involved.
My best 3 protectors of your leather furniture (Review)
In this section, I will detail three of my best leather furniture protectors from your cat. Each one will be reviewed with me revealing what I liked and didn’t like about it. This will help you to decide what works best for you.
01. Kitty Cat Protector cover (Best Option)
Click here for the price on Amazon
Pros:
- Claw-proof
- Simple to clean (just wipe it down)
- Waterproof (Reduce cat urine on your couch)
- Repels your cat from sitting on it
- Simple to remove when not needed
- Easy to store away
Cons:
- If you sit on it, you may need to re-arrange it, it slides about
- Not as comfortable as the original leather
- Reduces the visual appeal of the furniture
What I like about this Kitty Cat Protector cover
Firstly, this bad boy is claw-proof, meaning she can try and rough this protector up, but it won’t matter, are you with me? I love the fact that it is so simple to clean, just wipe it down.
And while we are on the topic of keeping it clean, I need to comment on the fact that it is not only easy t clean, it repels urine in the first place by being waterproof. But, not just urine, red wine anyone? Exactly, no more accidental spillages on your prime leather, right?
The great thing about this is its actual texture. In particular, its tendency to repel cats because they prefer leather then this shiny plastic material, does that make sense?
If you decide that you don’t need it for a while, maybe a guest is coming and you want them to see your letter couch, for example, then you can easily just whip this cover off, no hassle!
As well as this, it’s so compact and light you can store it away in most cupboards or storage area of your choice.
In summary, if you are looking for a leather furniture protector that is easy to use, waterproof and claw-proof, then this one is for you.
What I dislike about this Kitty Cat Protector cover
As you can imagine, by looking at it, it is not fixed your furniture. Meaning it may slide around a bit. Therefore, when you sit on it, you may notice that you need to rearrange it after because it’s slid out of place.
Let’s be honest though, this cover is not as comfortable as your leather furniture, right? And, it doesn’t look that attractive, to say the least. Come on, let’s call a spade a spade, right?
So, it is more of a practical choice to protect your furniture well, rather than a fashion choice, are you with me?
02. Golden-Smile cat furniture protector
Click here for the price on Amazon
Pros:
- Simple to set up
- Lifetime guarantee
- Large size (cover large areas of your furniture)
- Strong & thick (maximize protection)
- No pins required (uses self-adhesive instead)
- Non-toxic material
Cons:
- Tricky to get the backing off of the sticky pad
- The sticky tab may come off with time
- It may leave a sticky residue once removed
What I love about this Golden-Smile cat furniture protector
This protector is simple to set up, it simply sticks to your furniture to protect it. The reality is no pins are required, so you can save your couch from getting peppered with pin-holes, are you with me?
Its re-assuring that this Golden-smile protector comes with a lifetime guarantee, it makes me feel they have a good level of confidence with their product.
It comes in five pieces, each of which is large. This makes it easy to cover large parts of your furniture. It helps that it is strong and thick to prevent your kitty from destroying your couch (Click here to see how to protect your couch). Each piece uses non-toxic plastic for extra reassurance.
In summary, if you are looking for a simple solution to protect your leather that uses non-toxic material and does not require pins to install it, then you will like this.
What I dislike about this Golden-Smile cat furniture protector
Earlier I mentioned that it simply sticks to your furniture, remember? Well, it does. But, I have to say, sometimes it is a bit tricky to tack the sticky backing off. Not a big issue, but just a minor annoyance.
Like most things that stick, without pins, it may become unstuck in time. Worth keeping an eye on it. Also, if it eventually comes off, or you decide to remove it, you may notice some sticky residue left behind. Which is not ideal.
03. Roliat cat furniture protector
Click here for the price on Amazon
Pros:
- Simple set up (No tools required)
- Will attach to many surfaces (Leather, Wood, glass, etc)
- Shatterproof (can absorb impact)
- Non-toxic plastic
- Flexible material (Good for furniture with contours)
- Strong & thick
Cons:
- May come unstuck with time without pins
- If pins are used it will stick a hole in your furniture
- Material is reflective and reduces the visual appeal
What I appreciate about this Roliat cat furniture protector
This protector from Roliat is another offering that is just simple to set up. No tools are required to get up and running (more on this later). It will also attach to many surfaces, not just leather. This is including wood, glass, etc.
This material is strong and thick. It is deemed as shatterproof, meaning it can deal with the impact of your kitty. It uses non-toxic plastic to make it safer to use.
If you have furniture with slight contours and curves, I mean, which furniture doesn’t? Then, you will be happy to know it is a flexible material, which makes this easier to deal with.
In summary, if you are looking for a protector that is simple to set up, is flexible and uses non-toxic material, then this one sounds great for you.
What I do not appreciate about this Roliat cat furniture protector
With this protector, you have the option to use pins to hold it in place, or just use the adhesive to stick it down. If you opt for the latter, you may notice that, in time, it may become un-stuck.
However, the trade-off is, if you opt to use the pins, is that it will require pin-pricks in your precious leather furniture, which you may not love, are you with me?
Also, let’s be honest, this protector does its job. but, it does not look that great, right? It is more of a practical choice if that makes sense?
Related Questions:
In this section, I will answer some questions related to cats, protecting your furniture and general cat care. If you have any other related questions feel free to contact me.
Q: What other things are cats likely to scratch?
Apart from your furniture cats can scratch almost anything they feel is within their territory, your bedding, clothes, carpet in some cases they may attack your houseguests, but this is typically associated with bigger behavioral problems.
Q: IS ok for your cat to sleep on your leather couch?
Yes, its fine, as long as they treat it with respect. Although they can sleep there, it doesn’t mean its the best place. For example, you may find her sleeping under your bed, but that’s not ideal, right? You are better off giving them their own cat bed (Click here to see why I rated these as my best and comfortable cat beds).
