What you need to know about cat grooming bags (Guide)
Before you dip your toe into the ocean of cat grooming bags/carriers, you need to get a feel for what features and benefits are on offer. This will help you to make the best decision for your needs.
So, here are a few for you to take in…
- Adjustable neck straps (secure fit)
- Multiple color choices
- Scratch/paw resistant
- Correct max weight
Adjustable neck straps (secure fit)
The key factor for these bags staying intact is their neck-straps. If they are not fitted correctly you stand a good chance of your cat feeling uncomfortable and eventually escaping, simple!
Therefore, its important to get an adjustable neck strap so it fits correctly.
Multiple color choices
Some would argue that this is not mandatory, but I do not agree. Orange carrier and blue outfit, yuk! You need to make sure you have a selection of colors that work with your ensemble, right?
Unless you want your bag ripped to shreds in weeks, it’s important that it is tightly woven and scratch-proof. The reality is it will still get some damage, but this feature will add some serious durability and extend its lifespan.
Correct max weight
Before you buy its important to check the max weight. Some of these are ideal for cats of ten pounds, for example, while others can take 14 pounds. This could save you wasting your time with a bag that just will not fit.
The plan is to carry this grooming sack around as much as possible to get maximum value. So, it’s important that its lightweight. This will make your journies a lot easy, are you with me?
My best 3 cat grooming bags (Cat in the bag vs Purrfect Pouch vs alternatives)
01. Cat-In-The-Bag cozy Comfort Carrier (Best Option)
- Simple to get her in
- Fits any sized neck
- Ideal for grooming & trimming nails (access to front & back unzipped)
- Resists scratches (tightly woven fabric)
- Nice and soft (100% cotton)
- Many lovely colors (8 in total)
- It’s not waterproof (cat urine can be an issue)
- Some cats may get frustrated with lack of movement when zipped up
- Carrying handle has no padding (digs into your shoulder)
- Not ideal for large cats (over 10 pounds)
What I like about this grooming bag
If you are used to conventional hard or soft cat carriers (Click here for my best ones) then you may appreciate how easy it is to get your cat inside, right? Well, that was one of the biggest revelations with these grooming bags for me, they are actually quite easy to get her in.
Your cat may have a slender or bulky profile, it doesn’t matter. Why? because it can accommodate any of these profiles, are you with me?
One of the things I love is the ability to use this as an aid while grooming or trimming her nails. Why? Well, you can unzip the bag to gain access to her back paws and the front is freely accessible. Meaning, you can use the back to hold her in place while you trim or groom, are you with me?
The fabric it comes with is tightly woven. This means that it is not easily scratched up, meaning it is expected to have a long life.
Even though it’s strong, it is still soft though. This is mainly due to the 100% cotton usage. It also has a great range of colors to choose from, 8 colors in fact.
In summary, if you are looking for a cat grooming bag/sack that will carry your kitty in comfort, strong and can resist scratches, then this one is for you.
What I do not like about this grooming bag
Like anything, nothing is perfect. And the first thing that bugged me was the fact that it’s not waterproof. In the event that your kitty has an “accident”, you are left with a wet smelly bag to deal with, yuck!
The reality is, no matter how comfortable you think it is, some cats will just not like it, why? To be honest, no one knows, every cat is different. Some may find the lack of movement a frustration I guess.
The bag comes with a shoulder strap, which does its job to be fair, but it doesn’t offer any padding, meaning, after extended usage, you may notice it digging into your shoulder a bit, are you with me?
Lastly, if you have a massive kitty, over 10 pounds, this is not for you. Which is a shame for some cat owners.
02. PurrFect Pouch Carrier & Grooming Sack (Good for larger cats)
- Comfortable shoulder strap to carry her around
- Adjustable collar to hold her in securely
- Simple to use (just slip her in and zip it up)
- Can hold up to 14 pounds of weight
- Claw-proof material (avoids scratches & tears)
- Helps to reduce cat anxiety & keep her calm
- Would be easier if it opened from the top
- Not leakproof (urine will seep through)
What I love about this Purrfect Pouch grooming sack
I love the fact that this cat carrier has a lovely and comfortable shoulder strap. It’s important while you get from A to B.
The key part of this bag is the collar, it secures your kitty in place while you are in transit. Therefore, it is refreshing to see that the collar is adjustable to keep her secure.
Simplicity is the thing that I like. You can just slip her in, secure her into the collar and then zip up this bad boy and you are done!
If you have a larger kitty, you can still consider this, but there is a cap of 14 pounds of weight, so keep that in mind.
Although it is comfortable and soft, it is still strong. Meaning, you can feel comfortable that your cat won’t tear it to shreds. This is mainly credit to its claw-proof material.
For anxious cats (Click here for some great cat beds for them) that need to be kept calm while traveling, this is a great option. It keeps them close to their owner and doesn’t feel locked into a carrier, are you with me?
In summary, if you are looking for a grooming bag that is claw-proof, simple to use and can support cats up to 14 pounds of weight, then look no further.
What I do not love about this Purrfect Pouch grooming sack
One small nit-pick is, I wish this opened from the top instead. It works, don’t get me wrong, just my preference.
Lastly, keep in mind, like the last offering I reviewed, it is not leakproof. Meaning, if your kitty has a pee there is nothing to stop this flooding out onto you.

If you have ever struggled to get your kitty into a hard or soft carrier, then the chances are you will appreciate this grooming bag. Why? Well, its a cinch to get her in there. Granted, you will always have issues with aggressive cats (Click here for my best solution to calm them), but that’s just life, right?
The reality is, some cat owners are fashion conscious. Meaning, they want to coordinate colors as best possible. Therefore, most of those types will appreciate the fact that this bag comes in eight different colors.
Regardless if you are tall, short, skinny or big-boned, this should strap has the ability to match you with its adjustable strap. Also, for your actual cat, it is easy to adjust the neck strap to meet her requirements.

What I do not appreciate about this Furubaby cat grooming sack
Unfortunately, you will always get the odd cat that just won’t get on with this bag. It’s not really specific with this carrier, its just a preference. And, it will differ from cat to cat.
Also, make sure you have the neck strap adjusted correctly, if not she may squeeze her paw through the neck hole and plan an escape!
