What you need to know about wet vacuums (Guide)

Before you rush off to make your selection, it’s important to get a good idea of the best features and benefits that are on offer. This will help you to make more of an informed decision.

So, here are a few for you…

  • Deals with cat urine
  • Big capacity (allows you to clean without refiling regularly)
  • Lengthy power cord (great for big rooms/homes)
  • Fast-dry (use your carpet faster after cleaning)
  • Pleasant smell (after cleaning)
  • Remove cat hair tangling

Deals with cat urine

Obviously, cat urine is the main focus here, right? So, if it can’t handle this, forget it. The benefit of wet cleaners is, they make this a lot easier. Well, the good ones do that is for sure.

Big capacity (allows you to clean without refiling regularly)

Having a large capacity is great because it stops you from having to refill the device constantly. Obviously there is a trade-off with the extra weight you need to push around, so you need to find the balance.

Lengthy power cord (great for big rooms/homes)

The bigger the power cord the better, in my opinion. It allows you to deal with large rooms or keep it plugged in and travel from room to room.

Fast-dry (use your carpet faster after cleaning)

One of the downfalls of having a wet cleaner is the wet carpet it leaves after cleaning. But, if you get a good cleaner it will dry off quickly, allowing you to use your carpet sooner rather than later.

Pleasant smell (after cleaning)

Arguably this may be seen as a “nice-to-have”, but a nice fresh smell is important to me. It makes you get rid of your cat’s mess but handles the odor as well. One of the things I hate is the smell of damp water on your carpet, and this feature helps to eradicate that from happening by adding that amazing fresh smell.

Obviously, if you can prevent the mess as much as possible by using a good litter box (Click here to see why I rated this one best), that is ideal.

Remove cat hair tangling

Some of these devices, well one in particular (see below) allows you to avoid your cat’s hair getting tangled up. It is handy because if there is too much tangling it can affect how well your vacuum will clean.

My Best 3 wet vacuums for cat urine (Review)

In this section, I will share with you three of my best vacuums for cat urine. For each option I will explain what I like the most and what I feel can be improved. This will help you decide what is best for you.

01. Bissell wet vacuum (Best Option)

Pros:

  • Eradicates cat urine
  • Large capacity (two tanks)
  • Drys out fast (due to its effective suction)
  • Deals with stubborn dirt (comes with a power brush)
  • Efficient cleaning (cleans backward as well as forward)
  • Long cord (25 feet) to make it easy to reach in large rooms

Cons:

  • Its quite large, so tricky to maneuver
  • The attachment for the stairs should be longer
  • It doesn’t heat the water

What I like about this Bissell wet vacuum

Cat urine on your carpet needs to be considered a choice rather than a problem when you consider how easy this offering from Bissell cuts through it. With its large capacity, having two tanks makes it ideal to clean up large rooms, etc.

Even though it is a wet cleaner it dries out quickly. Why? Well, it’s due to its effective suction that it uses. It pulls up the dirt and urine fast, then sucks it really quickly.

If you have some real stubborn dirt to deal with you may feel like giving up or just pulling your hair out. Neither of these options is necessary because this vacuum comes with an effective power brush that cleans up the mess easily.

To make the cleaning smarter it not only cleans going forward, but it also does it in reverse. Most other vacuums tend to offer only one direction.

With its long 25 feet cord, you will not struggle to clean a large room, or even going room to room on the same floor, are you with me?

In summary, if you are looking for a wet vacuum that not only deals with cat urine, that also cleans large rooms, dries quickly and tackles deep dirt, this is the one for you.

What I do not like about this Bissell wet vacuum

Understand that this vacuum is powerful, but it also means its big. Meaning, it can be a bit tricky tugging it around the room due to its sheer size.

It has an attachment for the stairs. Personally I feel it could be bigger. It’s not a big issue, and some may argue that it is fine, but that’s my view.

The last thing, I wish that this device would heat the water, this would make life a lot easier.

02. Bissell pet pro vacuum

Pros:

  • Destroys cat urine
  • Leaves a lovely scent after cleaning
  • Great cleaning power
  • No more tangled hair on the brush roll (tangle-free)
  • Wash & vacuum simultaneously
  • Two tanks keep water fresh (one for clean & dirty)

Cons:

  • Takes some time to set up and break-down the device
  • The collection tank capacity is a bit limited
  • The power cord could be a bit longer

What I love about this pet pro vacuum

This vacuum by Bissell is designed specifically for pets and it is obvious. Why? Well, for one thing, it destroys cat urine and has some amazing cleaning power.

As well as its effective cleaning traits it also has a lovely scent that it leaves after you have finished. You know, it gives that fresh and clean smell that any cat owner will appreciate, are you with me?

One of the key features that attracted me to this is its tangle-free design. Basically, it stops the annoying tangling of cat hair that most vacuums are susceptible too, right?

They are clever with the design of this bad-boy because you can vacuum while washing the carpet at the same time. It helps that it has two tanks to separate clean and dirty water.

In summary, if you want a vacuum that cleans cat urine as well as having a tangle-free roller, the sweet scent after to you clean up and vacuums while you wet clean then this is ideal for you.

What I do not love about this pet pro vacuum

I am not sure if it’s just me, but this vacuum does take some time to set up and break down. It’s not a deal-breaker, in my opinion, but its an annoyance at the least.

The collection tank, for the dirt and grime, is a bit small, meaning you will need to empty it more than you would like.

And lastly, I feel that the power cord could be extended to give it a bit more range.

03. Ridgid wet vacuum (Best for storage)

Pros:

  • LED light to light up dark areas
  • Lightweight (can easily be taken out to your car)
  • Easy to store away
  • The filter is simple to fit and replace (uses Qwick-lock)
  • Expandable Hose (2-7 feet)

Cons:

  • The dry bags could have a bigger capacity
  • Would benefit with extra attachments on the hose
  • Has a tendency to topple over because of its lightweight

What I appreciate about this Ridgid vacuum

When you are cleaning dark areas, or maybe trying to reach some awkward areas in your car boot, there are times you will appreciate a little extra light, right? Well, this is where the LED light comes in handy with this device.

Earlier I mentioned cleaning your car boot, I say this because this device is lightweight. Meaning, it will allow you to take this out to your car easily and throw it around your vehicle.

Because of its size and weight, it is also easy to store it away when you do not need it. It also comes with this feature they call “Qwik-lock”, it allows you to easily fit and remove the filter with ease, which is much appreciated.

Getting to awkward areas is improved with its adjustable hose length (from 2-7 feet).

In summary, if you want a lightweight vacuum that can handle your pet’s mess, easy to clean up in your car and simple to store, then this is ideal.

What I do not appreciate about this Ridgid vacuum

The dry bags it comes with could be improved, in particular, they could be bigger. Also, the hose that it comes with would be improved with more attachments, in my opinion.

Lastly, I have commented on its weight, and how great this is. However, there are some disadvantages with its weight. Mainly while you are vacuuming, it may topple over as you swing it around, due to its weight, are you with me?
