What you should know about cat carries for scared cats
Before you consider purchasing one of these carriers it’s worth understanding the key features and benefits to look out for. For that reason, I am going to share some with you now to help you choose the best one for you…
- Good for scared cats
- Optimized for ventilation
- Safe & Secure
- Easy to store
- Good size
Good for scared cats
One of the main focuses of this article is cats that get scared easily. With that in mind, it’s important to identify a carrier that helps them while they are in transit. But what does this really mean?
Well, it should be secure but at the same time comfortable. As well as offering enough of a view of the outside world while you are in transit, basically good windows. So, lookout for a carrier that meets their needs to keep them happy while they are in the carrier.
Optimized for ventilation
As well as offering enough windows to keep them at ease. It is important that they have adequate ventilation. The carrier should have enough ventilation and make your kitty feel comfortable.
Safe & Secure
Safety and security is paramount. And, this does not necessarily mean a hard casing. Whilst this is good, cats also appreciate the comfort of a soft and secure case with ample ventilation. The main thing is, its important to look at the security features that the individual carrier offers.
Easy to store
The ideal carrier is not only secure and comfortable, but it will also be easy to store away when it’s not in use, are you with me? Some of the best carriers will collapse down easily for storage, or offer a simple solution to break-down for storage.
Good size
When your cat is in transit it is important that they have enough space. Therefore I use the term “good size”, why? because it’s subjective. Obviously an extra-large carrier for a seven-month-old kitten is a bit over the top. Hence it is good to find a carrier that offers a range of sizes to make it easier to choose the right one.
My Best 3 cat carriers for scared cats
In this section, I will compare three of my best 3 cat carriers. This will include the pros and cons of each carrier. As well as a detailed breakdown explaining why I feel that way. This should help you to make a choice.
01. PetLuv Cat Carrier (Best Option)

Pros:
- Ideal for scared cats
- Available on wheels (easier transportation)
- Optimized ventilation
- Focus on safety (Locking zippers, seatbelt loop, etc)
- Easy access and entry (top-loading)
Cons:
- The floor pad could be a bit bigger
- Quite big & bulky
What I like about this PetLuv cat carrier
This cat carrier is ideal for cats that find in scary when they are transported. The emphasis of this design is to avoid cat anxiety. It achieves this with its ample ventilation and enabling your cat to have a good view of its surroundings.
While you are on the move you can make the journey even easier with the wheeled upgrade (Click here for the reviews on Amazon). This adds wheels to the carrier and ideal for moving her around with no hassle.
Another thing I like about this is the safety features. It has seatbelt loops, for those car journeys. As well as reinforced seams to make sure it stays in one piece even when it has been treated rough.
When it comes to access, they have this covered. It has four access panels as well as accessing it from the top as well, which is my favorite because it’s convenient. Especially when you have other objects blocking the other access doors, are you with me?
Also, if you are worried about your kitties feeling comfortable while you are in transit, no need. It also has a cozy cushion/soft pad with it. The great thing about this is it is also machine washable, so you can keep it fresh and clean.
What I do not like about this PetLuv cat carrier
As much as I love this cat carrier, it’s not perfect. But let’s be honest, nothing is, right? The cushion or soft pad (whatever you call it) is great, but its a bit small. It could be improved if it was bigger.
Also, overall its quite big and bulky. It does the job, but you need to understand it is quite big. It is designed for large pets as well, so this is likely why it’s this bulky.
02. Petseek Cat Carrier

Pros:
- Nice and large (spacious for your cat)
- Easy to store (Collapsable, but still sturdy)
- Simple to clean (Machine washable)
- Designed for safety (Locking zippers included)
- Easy to access
Cons:
- Netting is a bit flimsy
- Quite heavy
What I love about this Petseek cat carrier
If you are looking for a carrier that offers maximum space and comfort, look no further. This offering from Petseek is large enough to cater for most kitties, so rest assured.
Another cool quirk is the fact that it is collapsible. This may not sound that impressive on the surface. But, I love the fact that it is easy to store when you are not actively using it. This makes a big difference.
When you have scared cats, you need to make sure that they are secure. To be fair, this is really a requirement for all cats, to be fair. However, more emphasis on this when you have scared cats, are you with me?
Therefore, I really appreciate the locking zippers that come with it. It just gives you that extra reassurance that you need to feel comfortable taking her out.
Also, with each of these secure zippers are 3 convenient access points. It is good to have more than one access. Why? Because you can never be sure if one of the access points gets blocked by another awkward object.
Ventilation is important when you have scared cats. As well as this is them viewing their surroundings while you transport them. This helps to relieve their anxiety. Which is why I appreciate this carrier having large ventilation and viewing windows.
On a final note, many people assume the plastic carrier is sturdier and safe. But, in reality, this is not always true. This Petseek carrier also has metal struts that keep it safe and in place.
What I do not love about this Petseek cat carrier
Earlier I commented on the strength and sturdiness of this carrier. Well, this is true, but it comes with one negative, it’s quite heavy. Not a deal-breaker type of weight, but worth mentioning never the less.
Also, while I appreciate the ventilation and ample viewing windows, the netting it uses is quite flimsy, in my opinion.
03. Petmate Cat Carrier

Pros:
- Good for air travel
- Top-loading (Easy access)
- Comfortable handle (ergonomically designed)
- Simple to open (using easy-squeeze technology)
- Built to be secure
Cons:
- A bit tricky to set it up
- Quite large for storage
What I like about this cat carrier
This carrier is ideal for air travel as well as scared cats. The manufacturer claims it’s approved for air travel. However, its always good to double-check with your specific airline, because some airlines have additional requirements.
I like the fact that you can access the carrier from the top, it just makes access so much easier. This access is complemented by the ergonomically sound handle it comes with. It does the job well.
While we are on the topic of access I will like to comment on how easy it is to open this with the use of their simple “easy-squeeze” system. On paper, you should be able to open it with one hand.
As you would expect from a hard carrier is a solid secure structure. This is complemented with a steel door that will help to keep kitty safe and secure.
When it comes to ventilation, this has also been well thought out. Why? Because it has air holes throughout the design to ensure that your kitty is well ventilated. In addition to this, it gives her a great view of her journey.
What I do not like about this cat carrier
There is no hiding that this carrier is solid and secure. But, it comes with a consequence, it’s quite heavy. For some people, this won’t be an issue. But, if you are a weakling, like me, then its worth taking note of this.
Finally, with regards to the setup. It’s a bit of a challenge to do it. In particular, attaching the plastic rivets onto the screws. This is done by hand and can be a pain at best. Again, this could just be me, because I am a DIY novice. Buy, I feel it’s worth mentioning.
