What you need to know about air purifiers (Guide)
Before you rush out and grab one of these purifiers, it’s worth understanding the features and benefits they offer. For that reason, I will explain some of the best of these to make life easier for you.
- Night light (Ideally with an off switch)
- Eradicates cat odor
- Silent (or quiet) operation
- Low power consumption (Saves energy)
- Deals with cat dander
Night light (Ideally with an off switch)
When you have dim, dark or even muted light a night light comes in handy. And, trust me, it is handy to have one on your air purifier. However, the best ones have a couple of light settings and more importantly, an option to turn the darn thing off!
Eradicates cat odor
With cat odor being the main emphasis of this article, it is paramount that it deals with this, right? Therefore, your purifier of choice should shave through cat odor like hot butter.
Silent (or quiet) operation
If you are like me, any loud devices get annoying, right? Therefore, it is important to choose one that is quiet when it is in operation (see below for examples of this).
Low power consumption (Saves energy)
If you are an eco-warrior or just a responsible citizen, you will make sure that your device will save as much energy as possible. Therefore, look out for a device has a low power rating.
Deals with cat dander
One of the major contributions to cat allergies is their fur and dander that floats in the air. The problem is, its not easy to see. Therefore, the purifier should be able to deal with this for you.
My best 3 air purifiers for cat odor (Review)
In this section, I will share with you three of my best cat air purifiers. For each model, I will explain exactly what I like best.
As well as discussing some of the annoying issues that I fee can be improved. This will help you to decide what works best for you.
01. Levoit air purifier (Best Option)

Pros:
- Appealing night light with two options (can be turned off if preferred)
- Helps to control pet dander (good for allergies)
- Gets rid of odors
- Traps dust mites, pollen & large particles
- Silent when running
- Indicator for when filters need changing
Cons:
- Has to be 15 inches away from any other object (bit awkward)
- Can become noisy if the filter gets plugged up
- May need more than one for large rooms
What I like about this air purifier
This cat purifier is ideal for owners that are looking to control those unwanted cat odors and dander. The dander control that this offers is great for people who have allergies.
It uses filtration to trap dust mites and get rid of pollen and large particles in the air that we often overlook.
It comes with a night light feature that can be controlled with two settings, which is effectively two different types of lighting. The good thing is you can also opt to turn this off completely if this light is annoying.
To be honest, if you are like m, you will turn it off, because I hate these little lights in my face when I am sleeping, are you with me?
In general, it is quiet (more on this later), which is good if you get annoyed with noisy devices. It also has a useful indicator when the filter needs to be changed. This saves you from finding out when it is too late.
In summary, if you want an air filter that is great for cat odor, dander, controllable night lights that can be turned off and a handy indicator to change the filter then this is for you.
What I do not like about this air purifier
Whilst I do adore this air purifier I have to say that it is a little annoying that i is recommended to be 15 inches away from any object, to get the best results. Not a big issue mind.
If the filter needs replacing you may notice that it tends to get a little bit noisy. And, if you have really large rooms you may find that you need more than one to do the job.
02. Hamilton Beach air purifier

Pros:
- Clears up the litter box odor
- Nice and quiet
- Eliminates cat dander (using filtration)
- 3-speed control (Highest cleans the fastest)
- Can be vacuum cleaned (the permanent HEPA filters)
- Can be used vertically or horizontally
- Compact profile
Cons:
- Makes the room a bit dry
- Does not come with the carbon filters (there is a permanent & replaceable carbon filter)
- Would be better if it could rotate
- Bit loud when it’s on the highest setting
What I love about this Hamilton Beach air purifier
This device from Hamilton beach is great for getting cat odor to back off! I like the fact that it is nice and quiet. Not only does it deal with cat odor, but it also deals with dander, which can be a real problem for people with allergies.
With regard to its operation, it has three-speed controls to handle the speed of the filtration. As you would expect, the highest setting deals with the odors the fastest.
As well as the replacement carbon filters (more on these later) it has some permanent HEPA filters. These are handy because they can also be vacuum cleaned to maintain them.
Keeping it in your home is easy with its cute compact profile and the fact that it can be stood up vertically or laid down horizontally.
In summary, if you are looking for an air purifier that is speedy, quiet, compact and can be placed horizontal or verticle, then this one is for you.
What I do not love about this Hamilton Beach air purifier
Earlier I mentioned that this purifier comes with a permanent filter. The only thing about this, which I was a bit annoyed about, was that it doesn’t come with some of the replaceable carbon filters.
To get better coverage of the room, I do feel that it would be good if it could rotate as well. Don’t get me wrong, it still does the job well, regardless.
Finally, when it is on the highest setting, it can get a bit loud. But, not a deal-breaker, in my opinion.
03. Koios air purifier

Pros:
- Gets rid of cat odor (as well as smoke, cooking odors, etc)
- Filters air dust
- Simple to operate
- Nightlight function
- Low power consumption
- Improves the air quality (Claims its good for old aged people, children, etc)
Cons:
- The high setting is quite loud
- The blue light can’t be turned off
- The new plastic/filter smell is a tad bit powerful
What I appreciate about this Koios air purifier
This offering from Koios quite simply does the job. It gets rid of cat odors, but not just this. It will also handle smoke, cooking odors, etc.
It will deal with dust particles in the air and is quite easy to operate, which is great if you are like me.
It has a handy blue nightlight (more on this later), that will help you fumble your way around in muted light.
I love the fact that it has low power consumption and improves air quality. In fact, regarding the air quality, the vendor even suggests this is great for elderly people or children, etc.
In summary, if you are looking for an air purifier that will handle cat odor, has low energy consumption and improves your air quality, look no further.
What I do not appreciate about this Koios air purifier
If you have this on the hight setting. It is efficient and fast, but it does make more noise, to be honest. And, remember I mentioned that handy blue night light earlier?
Well, it is good, but, there is no way to turn it off. For some people that is cool, but others will find this annoying at times.
And lastly, a bit of a nit-pick, there is the new plastic smell when you first get this, not a big issue as I said, but still worth mentioning.
