Why is your kitten hissing at your older cat?

Close-up of face of angry hissing cat

Closeup of angry hissing cat showing his teeth

You may be wondering why your kitten is acting like this in the first place. Therefore, in this section, I will give you some ideas about why this is happening.

The chances are your kitten is upset for these reasons:

  • Fear
  • Anxiety
  • Missing her mother

Any new kitten will undoubtedly miss her mother. Not just her, but her siblings. I mean, wouldn’t you? This is made worse when an unknown cat is placed in from of her. This makes her fearful and anxious.

And, her natural defense against this is hissing, to give a signal that she does not want to be approached. The reality is, in time, she will adjust and settle. So, you just need a method to control her in the short term (more on this later).

My top three methods to stop your kitten hissing

Now that you know why she is acting like this you are probably keen to understand a way to stop this happening. Therefore, in this section, I will give you a few solutions.

  1. Distract your hissing kitten with a toy (the best option)
  2. Separate the two cats completely
  3. Let them feed together (but monitor them)

01. Distract your hissing kitten with a toy (the best option)

This is by far the best option. It requires you to distract your hissing kitten with a simple toy (look below for my best ones). This will redirect her energy to a positive activity. Then, in time, she will start to feel comfortable around your older cat, are you with me?

02. Separate the two cats completely

With this method, you need to completely separate your two cats. It means there is no way your kitten can get anxious if she can’t see him, right?

The problem with this method

The issue I have with this is it’s almost impossible to implement. Unless you live in a mansion with a completely different isolated area. And, even then, they still may get curious and bump heads.

Also, it does not address the root cause, it avoids it. Ultimately, you want them to become friends, right?

03. Let them feed together (but monitor them)

The theory with this method is, if they feed together, they will appreciate each other. And, if you can get it working, it’s golden. It needs to get them slowly eating together. This is done by gradually moving their food dishes together, as you monitor them.

The problem with this method.

The issue with this method is, its hard to get it started. They will inevitably get anxious and may even fight, which you do not want.

My Best toys to distract your hissing kitten

In this section, I will share with you three of my best cat toy sets that will help you control your hissing kitten, when you implement option one above. For each one, I will explain what I like and do not like about it to help you decide.

Can you get your cat to use a hooded litter box? Yes, you can get your cat to use a hooded litter box. The best way is to use a hooded litter box with a removable top and slowly transition her from using it with the top off to having it on.

How to you get your cat to use a hooded litter box

hooded cat litter box

hooded cat litter box

In this section, I will explain how to get your cat to use a hooded litter box. There is more than one option to consider. But, one of them is easier, in my opinion.

Here are the options:

  • Use a hooded litter with a removable top (Best Option)
  • Use two litter boxes (hooded & standard)
  • Use any hooded litter box, but transfer old waste

01. Use a hooded litter with a removable top (Best Option)

Some cats take to hooded litter boxes right away. While others need some time to adjust. If you use a hooded litter box with a removable top you have the benefit of removing it, to imitate a standard litter box, then gradually get her used to having the top on.

Here is the process:

  1. Remove the Top: Take the top off and fill with litter
  2. Familiarization: Let her get use it as usual for a few days
  3. Apply her scent: Once she is comfortable, give it time for her scent to be applied to it.
  4. Put the lid on for a short while: See how she reacts, she should appreciate it, with her scent
  5. Leave the hood on: If she accepts it ok, just keep it on. Otherwise, return to step one and take more time.

02. Use two litter boxes (hooded & standard)

This another method to train her to use a hooded litter pan. Effectively you will be using two litter boxes. One is the standard open litter box. And, the other is the hooded litter box. The idea is you want to slowly transition her from the standard to the new one.

This is done by swapping them out gradually and seeing how she responds. If she responds right away, fine, remove the old one for good. Otherwise, take more time and switch back again.

The problem with this double litter box method

The issue with this method is it is more costly and it is tricky to get it to work. Also, there is a chance it may never work and you are stuck with an unused hooded litter box. Basically, back to square one, right?

03. Use any hooded litter box, but transfer old waste

With this method, you have two liter boxes again. One standard and the other is hooded. But, instead of having two sets of litter in each. You place the old litter into the hooded litter pan. This is to coax your kitty into the hooded litter box with her scent.

The problem with this method

The issue with this is cats are not silly. Even though the litter may smell familiar they can see its a new litter box. And the box itself does not have her scent on it, are you with me?

My best hooded litter boxes with removable tops

In this section, I will reveal three of my best-hooded litter boxes that have removable tops. This will make it easy for you to implement option one above and transition her to using the litter box with a hood.

01. Petphabet hooded box (Best choice)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Removable & see-through hood
  • Simple to keep clean (non-stick plastic)
  • Nice large size (plenty of room inside)
  • Ideal for multiple cat households (two cats)
  • High back (avoids spilled litter)

Cons:

  • No privacy door (just a hole)
  • No number on the plastic (Can’t see what type)

What I like about this Petphabet hooded box

Firstly, just take a look at this hooded box, it looks eye-catching and solid. And, once you use my method to get your kitty using it, you will be happy.

I love the fact that it has a see-through and removable top. This means you can transition your fur baby to use it and stop her from freaking out when she is in it, are you with me?

With its non-stick plastic, it makes cleaning a doddle, are you with me? It is also a nice large size. So, when she is using it she will have plenty of room inside. This is even more beneficial if you have more than one cat.

The high back and cover help you to avoid unwanted spillage. Let’s face it, we all hate soiled litter getting spilled out the back of those standard litter boxes right?

In summary, if you are looking for a large hooded litter box, that is removable, and with a see-through top, then this sounds like the one for you.

What I dislike about this Petphabet hooded box

If you look at the image above, there is no privacy door, right? Well, some cats may not love this. Also, maybe a knit-pick on my part. But, it has no number on the plastic that I can see.

This usually gives you an indication of the plastic-type that is used.

02. Van Ness hooded litter box

Click here for the price on Amazon

  • Simple to clean
  • Odor & stain-proof
  • Ideal for large (or multiple cats)

It’s easy to clean which is always a bonus, especially when you are the person doing it, right? It uses odor and stain-proof materials to make this effortless and lock away the odor.

Also, regarding locking away odor. The door that it comes with also assists with this, by locking in the stench, are you with me?

This is also great for large cats. Or, households that have more than one cat.

In summary, if you are looking for a hooded litter box that has a privacy door and easy to clean, then this should be strongly considered.

What I do not love about this Van Ness hooded litter box

This litter box comes with a filter. But, it is a bit annoying to see that there are no refills provided with it. it’s not a big issue to be fair, but worth mentioning. Also, please note this model does not come with a sifter.

Click here for the price on Amazon

  • Handy removable hood
  • Simple to clean
  • Comes with a litter scoop
  • Holds in the odor (hinged door provided)
  • Privacy (hooded top)

  • The door is a bit flimsy
  • The entrance door is on the small side

What I appreciate about this Iris hooded litter box

I love the two-tone look of this litter box. I just feel that it will fit into most modern houses with ease, right? I also appreciate the fact that it is easy to clean with a removable hood, which will make it easy to transition her using my method discussed above.

This litter box comes with a matching litter scoop. I like the fact that it’s matching. I know, that should not be important. But, for me, these little things matter, are you with me?

The hinged door helps to hold in the odor (more on this later). And, any effort to get rid of these smells in your home is appreciated.

In summary, if you are looking for a hooded litter box with a removable top, matching scooper, and swing door, this is the one for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Iris hooded litter box

I mentioned earlier that the hinged door helps to lock in the odor, remember? Well, it does, but it is a bit flimsy, in my opinion. Also, regarding this door, it is a bit small. I just feel that it could be a tad bit bigger.

How to Measure Cat Weight (Is it easy?)

If you are concerned with your cat’s weight and want an accurate reading (Click here to see the best solution to weigh your cat, on Amazon), you may be curious to see how to weigh her.

To weigh your cat you have three options. The best option is to use a dedicated pet scale. This provides the best accuracy. Or, worse case you can use your bathroom scales or luggage scales. But, it is more tricky using the last two options.

Now that you know the best ways to do this. Keep reading to learn the best solution to weigh your cat accurately, where you can get it, why your bathroom scales are not ideal, and much more.

Methods to weigh your cat’s weight

Cat standing on the scales in the garden

Cat standing on the scales in the garden. Cat Weigh control. Healthy body weight

In this section, I will explain some of the methods that you can use to measure your cat’s weight. Some of them are more accurate than others, so I will explain which one works best in most cases.

  • Using pet scales (best option)
  • Bathroom scales
  • Luggage scales

Using pet scales (best option)

Pet scales are dedicated scales for your cat only. The best ones can also be used for other small animals or even babies, but in your case, you will be using it mainly for your fur baby, right? But, it can’t hurt to have that extra option.

The big benefit of this is it’s dedicated. In the next sections, I will explain some other options which do work, but it’s hard to get the same accuracy like this. Hence the reason I say its the best choice.

Bathroom scales

Many homes have bathroom scales for their weight. Maybe you have some in your bathroom? This can be reused quite easily. But, it will be harder to get an accurate read.

The problem with bathroom scales

Most of these scales will struggle to calculate a cat’s weight because they are so light, in compression to you. So, the best way around this is to stand on it, get your weight, and record it. Now hold your cat in your arms, re-weigh yourself, and calculate your cat’s weight, make sense?

Honestly, it is a bit of a hassle, because your cat is likely to jump around and make it hard to pin down the weight. But, it’s an option if you are on a budget.

Luggage scales

Some people, who travel often have luggage scales. These can also be used in the same manner as your b personal scales.

The issue with luggage scales

Similar to personal scales, it is hard to get an accurate reading. This is because your cat is quite light and will need to be weighed along with some luggage.

Then re-calculate the weight of your cat. Like I mentioned above. And, this tends to be difficult, because the form on the scales is limited and your kitty will inevitably jump around.

My best pet scales to measure your cat’s weight

As described earlier pet scales are the best option. Therefore, in this section, I will share with you there of my best pet scales for you to consider. For each one, I will explain what I like and dislike to help you see if its the one for you.

01. Bykazaty Pet Scale (Best choice)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Nice big LCD display
  • Difference weighing modes (Pounds, kilos & ounces)
  • Height measurement tray provided
  • Tape measure (for larger animals)
  • Batteries included

Cons:

  • The scale only reads to one decimal place
  • No locking feature (More hassle for active cats)

What I like about this Bykazaty Pet Scale

These pet scales are ideal for any cat owner that is after an accurate weight measurement for their kitty. Firstly, it comes with a nice large LCD display, so you are not squinting your eyes to see the reading is if you are like me.

It comes with a selection of weighing modes such as kilos, pounds, and ounces. This is useful because sometimes you need a specific weighing metric other than pounds. Or, for people that reside in Europe, kilos is usually the main metric used.

If you want to monitor your cat’s height, as well as her weight, you are in for a treat. Because this comes with a tray that will measure her height. And, for those cats that may outgrow this tray, they have supplied a measuring tape for this.

And, it’s also nice to see it comes with batteries. As simple as this is, these days it’s rare to see.

In summary, If you are looking for some pet scales that come with a tape measure, accurate reading, and batteries provided, then this one is for you.

What I dislike about this Bykazaty Pet Scale

if you are after some real accuracy, I mean to the hundredth, then this scale may annoy you. This is because it only displays to one decimal place. Also, there is no locking feature to display her weight even if she keeps moving, are you with me?

02. MomMed Pet Scale

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Multi-use: Can be used for cats, babies even adults
  • Large LCD display
  • Swivel lock (Stabilizes the tray)
  • Batteries included
  • Hold function (Keeps the weight display, even with movement)

Cons:

  • Won’t measure to the hundreds of pounds or ounces (only Kg)
  • The measuring tray only displays centimeters (not inches)

What I love about this MomMed Pet Scale

This scale is a great choice for cat owners that want a simple and accurate measurement for their kitty. It’s good because you can use it for your kitty as well as babies or even adults.

It has a large display to make it easy to record her weight. If you are concerned about her balancing on the tray, don’t worry because it comes with a swivel lock. It comes with batteries, which, as discussed earlier is appreciated, especially for electronic devices today.

It’s also lovely to see that this has a hold function. This displays a constant weight even if your fur baby is moving all over the place, are you with me?

What I do not love about this MomMed Pet Scale

If you are is a fan of pounds and ounces and also want accuracy to the hundredths, this will upset you. Why? Because it will only display this in kilos, not in pounds and ounces.

Also, the tray is great for measuring, but, it is a shame that it only displays measurements in centimeters.

In summary, if you are looking for a scale that can be used for your cat, baby, or even yourself, then this will please you.

03. Beurer Pet Scale

Click here for the price on Amazon

What I appreciate about this Beurer Pet Scale

This scale looks cool, I love the simple curved weighing tray. It just screams “well designed”, are you with me? Apart from this, it has a large LCD display. Meaning, it makes life easier when reading the weight.

If you are concerned about her slipping and sliding while she is on the scales, don’t worry. This is because it comes with rubber feet that reduce the chances of this happening.

It comes with a tare function. This feature allows you to remove irrelevant objects from the weight calculation, for example, if your cat is wearing a heavy collar, make sense?

If you are sick of the digits jumping around while you get a reading because your kitty won’t sit still then breathe a sigh of relief because it has a manual and automatic locking feature to get around this.

In summary, if you are looking for a pet scale that will display a stable reading, non-slip feet, and a cute curved look, then this one is for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Beurer Pet Scale

This scale will not weigh in ounces. For some people, this is a real annoyance. Also, more of knit-pick to be fair is the fact that it does not come with a carry bag for the scale.

How to get ink out of cat fur

pen ink

pen ink

In this section, I will explain the three main approaches to removing ink from your kitty. This will help you to understand your options. Here are the choices:

  • Naturally, grow it out
  • Shampoo it
  • Trim it out

Naturally, grow it out

This is the easiest, safest, and cheapest method. But, it takes time to work. The reality is, some people may not be able to wait, because it can take some time. This involves letting nature taking its time and growing out of the old fur. If you can’t wait that long, check out the next option.

Shampoo it

If you feel that you cannot wait for the ink to grow out and it is not that bad, you may be able to wash it out. This is usually only effective if it’s not that much ink, are you with me?

There are quite a few shampoos, that are designed for your kitty, that you can use. Also, some of them use natural products to avoid the harsh chemicals some of them have.

Trim it out

If you can’t wait, and shampoo is no working, the last resort is trimming the fur. To be honest, I would avoid this if possible, but if it’s your only option you can consider it. Also, it is only really applicable if the ink is only in a small area. If it is a large area, seek professional help.

My best Cat Shampoo to remove stains and ink

In this section I will share with you three of my best cat shampoos that can be used to remove the cat ink, as discussed earlier, it is applicable for small areas that does not have much ink. It’s worth a try in my opinion.

The only thing I would say about this is, not every cat will love the smell. I guess this is the case with any shampoo, even if there is no fragrance, its quite subjective.

My best cat trimmers to remove ink

Also, it has an R-shaped edge. This clever feature prevents you from accidentally cutting your cat’s skin, are you with me?

The blades can easily be detached. This makes it easy to clean it out.

What I do not love about this Oneisall cat trimmer

Earlier I mentioned that it can be used while on a charge, remember? Well, this is lucky because one of my annoyances is the lack of indicating that the battery is low.

Also, from time to time, you may notice that the fur get tangled around the guard. Yes, you can detach the blades and clean them, but it’s still annoying.

03. Ceenwes cat trimmer

Pros:

  • Super quiet design
  • 2-year after-sale support
  • Cordless design
  • Lightweight
  • 70 minutes usage (from just 5-hour charge)

Cons:

  • Fur tends to get caught up
  • The scissors could be sharper

What I appreciate about this Ceenwes cat trimmer

This trimmer is super quiet. if noise is a concern for you, then this one is for you. It comes with a 2-year after-sale service, which is quite reassuring.

I love the cordless design. This gives you so much freedom when compared to a corded version. Are you with me? It is also nice and lightweight.

The battery is quite good as well, in my opinion. You can expect approx 70 minutes of usage from a 5-hour charge.

What I do not appreciate about this Ceenwes cat trimmer

From time to time you may notice that the fur gets clogged up in the blade. Meaning, you will need to keep cleaning it to clear it. Also, the scissors provided are quite blunt. Meaning they could be a bit sharper, are you with me?

Why do cats scratch your furniture?

Cats have a habit of scratching around your home because they are territorial. This is a natural instinctive behavior to fend off other cats that may invade their territory.

This behavior is deep-rooted in their DNA and quite hard to change.

What Can you do to prevent it?

Ultimately there are few ways to handle this:

  • Remove the affected furniture (not ideal)
  • Use pheromones to attempt to affect her mood.
  • Protect the furniture to prevent it from getting scratched.

Remove the affected furniture (not ideal)

As the title suggests, removing the furniture is not ideal. Because, the chances are she will just do the same thing to another piece of furniture, or even worse, the new furniture, are you with me?

Use pheromones to attempt to affect her mood

One technique some cat owners have is using pheromones (Click here to see why I rate this one). These are ideal for cats with aggressive behavior but may help in this situation also.

Protect the furniture to prevent it from getting scratched

The final technique is using scratching protection products (see below) to save your couch and furniture. I like this option the best because you can keep your furniture in place and stop your cat messing it up.

Also, some of them are transparent, so they blend into the existing decor well.

My best 3 solutions to prevent cats scratching

In this section, I will share with you 3 different solutions for preventing your cat from scratching your couch to shreds. I will explain what I like and do not like for each option to help you understand what works best for your needs.

01. Panther Armor Couch Protector (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Protects your couch from cat scratches
  • Large sheets (that can be cut to size)
  • Simple to use & customize
  • The vinyl material is non-toxic
  • Can be used on wood or leather furniture
  • Money-back guarantee

Cons:

  • Requires twist pins to secure it
  • Needs some padding to fit securely
  • The twist pins supplied are a bit flimsy

What I like about this couch scratcher

I understand why they call this product panther armor because it could handle the scratches of a crazed panther, and this is what I like about this.

It comes with some nice big sheets that can cover all parts of your couch. With the option to cut it to size, to meet your specific requirements.

The fact that it can be used on wood or leather is also great because it means it will serve most people’s requirements. Also, I like the fact that it is non-toxic, which is reassuring.

In summary, this is a great couch protector that can help to guard your couch against unwanted scratches, whilst having the flexibility to fit most couches.

What I do not like about this couch scratcher

Its worth understanding that to make this fit securely, you will need some twist pins. They are supplied, but they will need to be pushed into your furniture, which some people may not like.

To make them fit securely you will really need a part of the sofa (Click here to see how to stop your cat hiding under your recliner) that has some good padding if that makes sense. Basically, if it’s hollow their, it won’t fit right.

Also, no sure if it’s just me, but the twist pins are a bit flimsy, to be honest. Not a deal-breaker, but a bit frustrating.

02. In Hand Couch Protector

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Protects your couch from unwanted damage
  • Non-toxic material
  • Eco-friendly
  • Can easily be taken down & re-used
  • It can be used for couches, chairs, carpets, etc.
  • One year warranty

Cons:

  • Not ideal for hollow couches
  • Comes in several small sheets (rather than one big sheet)
  • Tricky to keep them flat & in place

What I like about this couch scratcher

This is another cat scratcher that will protect your couch from unwanted scratches. It comes with non-toxic, eco-friendly material.

I also love the fact that it can easily be taken down when required and re-used. This will help with unwanted waste. Apart from couches, it can be used on chairs or even carpets, etc.

Another sign of quality is when a product comes with a warranty like this one does (one year). This gives you the reassurance that the manufacturer has some faith in their product, rather than selling items and running for the hills, are you with me.

In summary, this is a great couch scratcher to protect your couch from unwanted damage an with the reassurance of an eco-friendly product with re-useability.

What I do not like about this couch scratcher

If you have a couch that has hollow areas, meaning no wood behind the material, you may struggle to get this to grip. Ideally, it needs this to grip onto for a secure fit.

Also, understand that this comes in several small pieces, rather than one big piece, are you with me? Meaning, you will need to group them together if you require a large area covered if that makes sense?

Not sure if it’s just me, but I found it hard to keep it flat in some areas. But, hopefully,`z this won’t affect you.

03. Stelucca Amazing Shields Protector

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Avoid your couch getting ripped to shreds
  • Big large protective sheets
  • Simple to cut to shape
  • Can be bent around curved surfaces
  • 100% money-back guarantee

Cons:

  • It’s quite tricky to stick it in place
  • The adhesive may stick to some materials (after removal)

What I appreciate about this couch scratcher

Firstly, this scratcher does its job, it stops your couch from getting damaged and ripped to shreds, which is our first priority here, right?

It comes with large protective sheets that are simple to cut up to fit your specific needs. The great thing I like about this is the fact that it can bend around curved edges.

One of the key things I like about this is the 100% money-back guarantee. This gives me the vibe that they are confident with their product.

In summary, if you are after a simple cat scratcher, that does the job and comes with a guarantee of quality, then look no further.

What I do not appreciate about this couch scratcher

One of the annoyances with this couch protector is setting it up. It is a bit tricky, in my opinion. In addition to this, the adhesive that you use seems like it may leave sticky residue on your couch after removal, but only time will tell on this.

Related Questions:

In this section, I am going to answer some questions related to cats, scratching and general behavior. If you have any extra questions on this topic feel free to contact me.

Do cats scratch other areas of the house?

Yes, cats are known to scratch walls, couches, and even doors.  You may have been lucky and only experienced one or none of these, but it can happen. Apart from couches, there are other solutions available to deal with these other issues.

Is cat scratching always done to mark territory?

No, not all cat scratching is due to marking territory, for example, some cats might scratch the area around her food, but this is not related to territory. In fact, this behavior is more related to her natural instincts, rather than territory marking.

Why do cats scratch?

Cats scratch for a number of different reasons. Sometimes its to do with marking territory, other times it’s for claw sharpening or even just to stretch.

For example, sometimes you may see your kitty stretch out fully, dig her nails in the carpet (or flooring) to get leverage for the stretch, right?

Other times, you may see her sharpening her claws, they effectively strip away the dead outer layer of their claws to keep them sharp, in this instance.

same cat owners opt to use cat clippers or grinders (Click here to see why I rate this one so much) as another solution to control the damage their claws cause.

Why do cats like scratching sisal fabric or rope?

Cats like sisal fabric/rope because they enjoy the texture. It allows them to get an excellent grip while dragging their claws down it. This is why you will see most good cat trees using sisal rope (Click here to see why I rated these ones).

Does a scratching post dull cat’s nails?

No, a scratching post (Click here to see why these are the best) does not dull a cat’s nails. However, cats tend to develop husks that grow around the nail, which are quite painful. When they use these scratching posts (Click here to see why these scratch posts are ideal for Ragdoll cats), it allows them to remove them. As well as this they can exercise their muscles at the same time.

Do some cats scratch or target certain people?

Yes, sometimes cats do target or scratch certain people, for example, your kitty might hiss or attempt to scratch your dad or other friends. This may be because she feels threatened or uncomfortable.

Can you put two cats in one carrier?

If you have two cats there are quite a few considerations. Such as food, entertainment, grooming (Click here to see why I rate this grooming brush), etc. But what about transportation, can you carry both cats together?

Can you put two cats in one carrier? Yes, you can put two cats in a carrier (Click here to see my best cat carrier for two cats on Amazon). However, you need to make sure that you get the correct sized carrier for this to be possible. Not just the size, but it needs to have the correct ventilation and durability.

Now that you know that you can carry two cats in a carrier, let me share with you 3 of my best cat carriers that can support two cats, features that you should be looking out for in these carriers and much more.

Features you should be looking for

In this section I am going to list some features that you should be looking for before you consider buying a carrier for your cats:

  • Size (Needs to be big)
  • Good ventilation
  • Easy-open latches
  • Easy to assemble
  • Good handle grips
  • Secure

Size (Needs to be big)

Firstly, when you are thinking about multiple cats, you need a good size. I guess this goes without saying, but it’s important to look out for this.

Good ventilation

If your kitties are in there, it needs excellent ventilation. Therefore, you need to look out for the carrier that clearly specifies this to make sure.

Easy-open latches

Simplicity is the key. That is why a simple easy-open latch is highly desirable. These latches just give you peace of mind that you can release them easily, without the hassle and more importantly, without them getting anxious while they wait to get out, are you with me?

Easy to assemble

I am not sure about you. But, personally, I need an easy assembly. If it gets too complicated I am off. Therefore, look out for a carrier that makes life easier.

Good handles and Secure

A good secure carrier is a must. It needs to carry two cats and also keep them safely inside. So, this is a feature that cannot be skipped, I hope you will agree. As well as this, carrying it should not be a pain in the rear either. Therefore if it has well designed handles to absorb the weight of the carrier that will be seriously advantageous.

Best 3 Carriers for two cats

In this section, I am going to share with you a few carriers that can be used for two cats. This will help you decide which is the best for you.

01. Petmate Cat Carrier (Best option)

Click here to see the price on Amazon

Pros

  • Secure (4-way vault door)
  • Ideal for two cats (Big)
  • Strong
  • Great ventilation (wire vents & ventilation is 360 degrees)
  • Portable (Clip-on food & water bowls)

Cons

  • The latch is not easy to open
  • Plastic bolts (appear flimsy)

What I like about the Petmate Cat Carrier

This carrier is beefy, if you are worried about transporting two cats, don’t worry. This bad boy will carry them like a champ! It’s secure with its 4-way door vault system and looks strong as an ox. Another thing I like is the ventilation it provides. It has numerous wire vents allowing your cats to breathe easy.

What I do not like about this Petmate Cat Carrier

Firstly I have to comment on the latch. Yes the carrier “looks” beefy, but as they say, you are only as strong as your weakest link, right? Well, the latch is a bit too easy to open as far as I’m concerned.

Also, the bolts supplied are a bit flimsy, in my opinion. Why? Well, for some reason the manufacturer opted for plastic bolts. Not sure if this was a cost-saving tactic, or maybe to cut back on the overall weight, who knows? All I am saying is, would it be better if they were metal, are you with me?

02. Aspen Cat Carrier

Click here to see the price on Amazon

Pros

  • Large carrier (Ideal for two cats)
  • Good for air travel
  • Great visibility & ventilation
  • Easy open latch
  • Ergonomic Gripped handle

Cons

  • Plastic is a bit thin
  • Not ideal for aggressive cats

What I like about Aspen Cat Carrier

I want to start off by congratulating Aspen for the size of this carrier, it’s ideal for two kitties. The vendor also boasts that its ideal for air travel. In all honesty, I can’t say I have tested that side of it but it sounds like a great bonus.

It has a good amount of air ventilation to keep the kitties happy during a lengthy excursion. It has a handy easy-open latch to cut down on the complications when getting her out. It is also a cinch to carry with the help of the ergonomic gripped hande.

What I do not like about Aspen Cat Carrier

Before we get too excited, I need to highlight a couple of issues. Firstly the plastic. It is a bit thin, in my opinion. It just comes across as a bit flimsy at times, are you with me?

03. Necoichi Cat carrier

Click here to see the price on Amazon

Pros

  • Big enough for two cats
  • Easy assembly
  • Flexible
  • Great Ventilation
  • Secure
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Needs better Instructions
  • Complicated storage procedure

What I like about Necoichi Carrier

Firstly, this carrier is great for two cats, you won’t get any issues with size here. It is relatively easy to assemble (however, the instructions are another thing, but more on this later).

The thing I like about this carrier is the flexibility. but, what do I mean by this? It can be used in many different ways, e.g. a little private area for your kitty, traveling from A-to-B, a place for your kitty while you clean up, etc.

The fleece mat and storage bag are easy to be kept clean, which is ideal if you are keen on cleanliness like me. It also has great ventilation, which is achieved by the mesh panels that it has. These can also be rolled up for convenience.

Lastly, I’d like to comment on the security. When I say security, I do not mean fort-nocks by the way. I mean secure enough to keep kitty in place and prevent her from escaping, are you with me?

What I do not like about the Necoichi Carrier

As good as this carrier is it does have some flaws, as you would expect. Firstly I am surprised to see the instructions are in Japenese. For some people, this is not even an issue, but for simpletons like me, this is annoying. I really feel they could make life easier with English instructions, especially if they are selling to an English speaking market, are you with me?

The next gripe follows on a similar theme. This carrier has quite a complex storage, in my opinion. Basically it needs to be folded in a very specific way. And, because there are no English instructions, it makes life unnecessarily harder.

Related Questions:

In this section, I will answer some questions related to cats and carriers. If you have any specific questions that have not been answered, feel free to drop a comment below.

Q: Can I take these carriers on an airline?

Yes, some of them claim you can. However, I would say that you should really double-check with your airline to confirm before you travel. Why? Because every airline has its own guidelines and there can be various different requirements that may change from airline to airline, are you with me?

Q: Can two cats share a water bowl?

Yes, two cats can share a water bowl. But, to honest its not ideal. Really, you should be providing two separate bowls so they get an equal share and reduce the chance of them fighting over the bowl.

Why do you need a Cat Harness?

You may be thinking, what is the reason for a harness in the first place? Well, there are a few reasons. Let me explain a couple of these reasons now.

Firstly, attaching a lead directly to a cat collar (Click here to learn how to stop your cat taking off her breakaway collar) is dangerous and arguably cruel. But, why? Simple, cats have soft throats. They are not like dogs. They are not built to take the same impact on their necks.

Therefore, a harness is the solution to use a cat lead safely. It removes the stress of dragging their neck and risk choking them.

Also, in recent years, there has been a big surge in the number of cats classed as “Indoor cats” (click here to see if indoor cats need grass). So what? Well, this means there are a lot of bored cats stuck indoors.

Some of these cat owners require a safe way to expose their indoor cat to outside. And they see a cat harness as an important part of that reality, are you with me?

How do you measure up a cat harness?

One of the important things, before you buy a harness is getting the sizing right. Therefore, I will spend a few moments with your now to explain how you can measure up for a harness correctly.

Each harness has its own sizing guidelines because they have slightly different styling. Therefore you should follow their instructions to measure the areas required.

However, a general rule is to make sure you measure the areas but make sure you make a snug fight. The idea is it must be secure enough to reduce the chances of your cat escaping. But, not too tight, because your cat needs to feel comfortable, are you with me.

One finger rule

To help you get this right, the idea is to fit it so you can still fit one finger in between the harness itself and your cat. This is some necessary breathing room.

Be mindful that your cat will need some time to adjust to the harness. And, especially in the early days, it will try its best to escape. So a snug fit is important.

What are the styles to look out for?

Before choosing your harness its important to understand the different styles available. Why? Well, different styles have different advantages and disadvantages based on your cat. Let me explain…

The “H-Shape”

This style gives a good secure fit, It has special straps that wrap around the cat’s neck area as well as its waist. This helps by distributing the pressure. Which makes it more comfortable for your cat.

Vest Style

Like the name suggests this wraps around the cat’s chest, like a vest. Then the straps are located on its back. This is a great fit for your cat.

Step-In Style

This style is arguably not as secure. It avoids putting the harness over your cats head by allowing your cat to step its front two paws in first. The idea is to avoid the trauma of getting your cats head in place like conventional styles.

My Best Cat Harnesses for Hiking:

In this section, I will list my best cat harnesses. These are ideal for hiking, comfort and keeping your beloved secure while on the move.

01. Gauterf Universal Cat Harness with Leash (Best Overall)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Secure – Eliminates the chances of escape.
  • Comfortable fitting.
  • Adjustable straps – Helps to fit most cats.
  • Great for hiking – comfortable for hiking journeys.

Cons:

  • A bit heavy for younger cats.
  • Neck opening may be a bit too big for smaller cats.

What I like about this Gauterf harness

This harness is great for security. It has solid secure straps and design to keep you cat firmly in place while you take her out for a walk. Also, while it is secure, it is still comfortable. Meaning they have not sacrificed security for comfort, are you with me?

If you are worried about this harness fitting your cat, relax! Why? Because it has some great adjustable straps to cater to most cat sizes. In a nutshell, this is a great harness for people that love hiking.

What I don’t like about this Gauterf harness

If you have a younger cat, you may find that this harness may be a bit too heavy for them. You will have to try and see, but this is my opinion. Also, the neck opening can be a bit big for some smaller cats.

02. Pupteck Adjustable Cat Harness (Best for Small cats)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Easy to put on.
  • Great for hiking.
  • Good support and security.
  • Adjustable – To fit most cats.
  • Quality material (good build quality).

Cons:

  • Mid-section needs to be adjustable.

What I like about this Pupteck harness

This harness is great, it’s easy to put on and a good one for hiking. Once it’s on it provides good support and security. Also, it caters for a good range of cats with its adjustable straps. I like the fact that the build quality is good.

What I don’t like about this Pupteck harness

Although it is adjustable, the midsection does not appear to be adjustable. It’s a shame because I feel that if they added this it would greatly improve this harness.

03. Yizhi Miaow Cat Harness with Leash

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Adjustable (with what they call “Magic Tape” enclosure).
  • Comfortable (Padded. Chest and neck strap, have soft material).
  • Escape proof (without using plastic buckles).
  • Great ventilation (Layer of mesh underneath).

Cons:

  • Sizing tends to be smaller than expected (Size chart not quite reliable).

What I like about this PUPTECK harness

This harness is an interesting design, in fact, it is one of the things that I love about it. It is nice and adjustable, so you should not have an issue securing your kitty.

One of its biggest benefits is its comfortability, in my opinion. It has a padded design with the chest and neck strap perfectly soft for maximum comfort.

Even though it’s padded, that does not mean it is insecure, in fact, quite the opposite. The manufactures claim its escape-proof, and I can believe them. They use what they call “Magic Tape”, instead of conventional plastic buckles. This keeps it secure while also keeping it comfortable, are you with me?

It also has great ventilation. It achieves this by having an extra layer of mesh underneath that allows the fur and skin to breath.

What I don’t like about this PUPTECK harness

My only criticism is the sizing. Mainly my gripe is with the sizing chart that is provided. To cut a long story short, it isn’t quite accurate in my opinion.

I Found that the harness comes in smaller than expected. Not a deal-breaker, but something to consider before you order one of these. You may just find it a bit annoying if you have to return and swap the item to get the ideal fit for your cat. You may be lucky and totally avoid this altogether.

Why do you even need cat shampoo?

In general, cats do a great job of grooming themselves. They instinctively clean and groom their fur from as early as a kittens age. However, there are occasions when their normal grooming tactics, e.g. licking themselves, is not enough.

Sticky messes that are not to be licked

If your cat gets her fur in a big mess, such as getting paint, caked in mud, etc. Then ideally, you do not want your cat to go ahead and try and lick this off. Not only is it not practical, but it can also be a potential health risk, are you with me?

Health-Related Issues

Then there other issues like fleas, ticks, dandruff, etc. All of these issues cannot be resolved with your cat’s normal measures of just licking its fur.

Can’t you just use regular Shampoo?

You may be thinking to yourself, why the big fuss with Cat shampoo, I can just grab my own bottle of hair shampoo and be done with it, right?…

Wrong!

You can’t use normal, conventional hair shampoo on your poor kitty. But why?…

Simple, there are different PH levels in your shampoo, that just won’t work well with your cat. The PH levels in your shampoo at home is not compatible with your cat.

This is one of the reasons why there is cat-specific shampoo in the first place.

What should you be looking for?

In this section, I will give you an idea of important things to look out for before buying your cat shampoo.

Important Ingredients

Ideally, you want to look for a shampoo that has natural ingredients. This is a good sign of high quality and more quality for your cat’s skin & fur.

However, there are exceptions. If your cat has issues with fleas (more on this later), then you will need a shampoo that deals with this issue, that uses chemicals.

Chemicals to avoid

In general, there is a list of chemicals to look out for and avoid:

  • Petrochemicals
  • Sulphates
  • Parabens
  • and artificial dyes

Cats with sensitive skin

If your cat has issues with sensitive skin. Best to look out for specialist shampoos that deal with this. The reason being is, they have ingredients that cater to this issue in particular.

When I say “sensitive skin”, this includes other issues such as dandruff, itchy skin, etc.

My Best Cat Shampoo (Vet’s Best vs Tropiclean)

In this section, I will compare my best cat shampoos by Vet’s Best & Tropiclean. This will be based on overall best, best for flea treatment and best waterless shampoo.

01. TropiClean Papaya and Coconut Pet Shampoo (Best Overall)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Smells great.
  • Great ingredients: Papya, coconut, etc. (Keeps fur soft).
  • 2-in-1: Shampoo & Conditioner (more value)

Cons:

  • Smells good, but the smell does not last long.

Things I Like about this Tropiclean Papaya Shampoo…

First and full most, this shampoo smells great. You have to smell it to believe it. It will make your cat’s fur smell great. It lathers up well and has a great smell. This must be due to the great ingredients such as coconut, papaya, etc.

Another thing I like is the fact that it is not just shampoo, it also doubles up as a conditioner as well. Great value two in one product in my opinion.

Things I Do Not Like about this Cat Shampoo

My only gripe with this shampoo is the lastability of the smell. What do I mean? Well, it does smell great, no doubt about that. However, it doesn’t have that long-lasting lingering smell. After some time the smell wears off and you will be in need of another shampoo. And, as you may know, it’s not good to shampoo your cat too much.

02. Vet’s Best No-Rinse Clean Waterless Cat Shampoo (Best Waterless)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Really easy to use.
  • Lovely light fragrance.
  • Helps with cat dandruff.
  • Has great natural ingredients.

Cons:

  • The pump it comes with is not that effective.

Things I Like about this Vet’s Best Waterless Shampoo

I love the fact that it is really easy to use, childs play actually. I know this is subjective, but I love this smell. It is a lovely light fragrance, in my opinion.

It also helps with dandruff and the fact that it has natural ingredients, such as Aloe vera and oatmeal just adds to the appeal for me.

Things I Do Not Like about this Waterless shampoo.

It comes with a pump to funnel out the shampoo. However, maybe it’s just me, but, the pump is really not that great. It’s not a deal-breaker though, the worse case just apply it by hand.

03. Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Waterless Shampoo (Best Flea & Tick Treatment)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Gets rid of fleas & ticks.
  • Quick & easy to use.
  • Smells wonderful.
  • No added perfumes.

Cons:

  • You need a lot to cover your cat.
  • Deals with fleas, but more will return.

Things I Like about this Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Shampoo

Firstly, it does the job. It will get rid of your cat’s fleas & ticks. Great! But there is more…

It’s really quick and easy to use and on top of this, it smells delicious. Well, I think so anyway! Also, it’s great to see they have achieved this great smell without loading the product with perfumes.

Things I Do Not Like about this Flea Shampoo

It does the job, as in it gets rid of the fleas that your cat may have. However, you may find that in time the fleas will return. I am not sure if this is the shampoos fault or not to be honest. But it does deal with the short term issue at least.

Also, bear in mind, this is a waterless shampoo. Meaning you won’t be lathering it up with water. So what? Well, it means you will need a fair amount to fully cover your cat, are you with me?

Can you over bathe your cat? Yes, you can over bathe cats. Why? Because cats have natural oils in their fur that helps to protect it. If you over bath them, it strips their body of these valuable oils.

If you want to have a general idea of what is classed as “over bathing” or what is acceptable, let me give you a guideline. Generally, long-haired cats can be bathed more than short-haired cats.

Long-haired cats should not be bathed more than once a week. As for short haired cats. They can go months without a bath. In fact, some people don’t even bath them. Really they only need a bath if they are covered in something unpleasant.

Can you use dog shampoo on cats? No, however tempting this may be, don’t do it. Dogs and cats have different needs. More importantly, they react to certain flea products different from cats. These products are specially formulated with these reasons n mind. That is why it is not a good idea to mix them.

What is an Iseebiz or WOpet Auto feeder?

These are specific brands of Autofeeders for cats. These same feeders can be used for dogs and other small animals. So, they are favored by a number of pet owners.

There are a number of different styles, colors, and features, as you would imagine. There is also many other brands, other than WOpet & Iseebiz.

Ideal for keeping your cat feed during times when can you simply cannot be there. Such as an important weekend away that is not pet compliant.

Apart from this, it is also a great way to use portion control. This can help to prevent your cat from overeating. Which is a good added benefit.

Things to look out for, before you buy

Capacity & Portions

If you have a busy job or limited time (which is most of us these days) then you need the largest capacity within your budget.

This is because you can queue up more meals with a larger capacity, so it is definitely an important factor to look out for.

Timer Function (Programmable)

One of the biggest features of an Auto-feeder is the timer function. This allows you to program a schedule to feed your cat.

Usually, this is achieved by a lid that is open once your desired time is reached. This is the key feature for the power of remote feeding.

Accepted Food Types

Essentially some feeders are dry food only. While others cater for wet food as well. Majority of the ones reviews in this article only allow dry food.

Wet food auto feeders typically have a refrigerator feature as a bonus (which will cost more, in most cases) to keep the wet food fresh.

It depends on what your cat eats really. If she won’t eat dry food, then you have no choice. However, if she eats both you can decide if the dry food is more convenient for when you are not there.

Iseebiz vs WOpet Reviews:

In this section, I am going to reveal my top Iseebiz and WOpet auto feeders. I will highlight the pros and cons of each feeder to help you decide which on one meets your individual needs.

01. WOpet SmartFeeder 6-Meal Auto w/ Wi-Fi (Best Overall)

Click here to see the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Feed your cat from any location.
  • HD Camera & Voice Recording features (To check up & make her comfortable).
  • 2 x Food dispensers.
  • The feeder can be customized (more flexibility for you).

Cons:

  • The app doesn’t send notifications when food is low (only when finished).
  • The camera doesn’t have night features.

Things I like about the WOpet SmartFeeder 6-Meal Auto w/ Wi-Fi

The beauty of these auto feeders is the convenience of feeding them from anywhere, while you are physically not there. And this feeder does not fail to deliver. With its wi-fi feature set, it is easy to use their app to keep tabs.

It has an HD camera so you can have a look at how she is doing back home while you are on the move or away on business. In addition to this, you can record a custom voice message for your cat, to make her feel at home in your absence.

It has two feeder dispensers, so you can even consider feeding two cats. These dispensers can be customized easily.

Things I do not like about the this WOpet SmartFeeder

More of an annoyance rather than a deal-breaker. However, I need to mention that while it does have a notification to prompt you to re-fill. It only triggers when the food is finished.

In my opinion, it would be a far more valuable feature to have it notify if the food is low. Therefore you get a chance to re-stock before the food depletes.

Lastly, although this is not something that was promised, it would be good to have night features. Meaning maybe a night cam so you can see your cat when it is low light or night time.

02. Iseebiz Auto Pet Feeder w/ Voice Record (Best Iseebiz)

Click here to see the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Customizable feeding portions (for your flexibility).
  • Voice Recording (To make your cat feel at home).
  • Double power sources (To keep it running all times).
  • IR Detector Built-In.

Cons:

  • Dispences small amounts.
  • The cover is not tight enough.
  • Portions are not always 100% accurate.

Things I like about the Iseebiz Auto Pet Feeder w/ Voice Record

One thing I love is customizability and flexibility. This is great for that. You can choose your own feeding portions to match your cat’s needs.

You can record your voice calling your cat for feeding time once, then play this recording over and over again. This will make her feel like you are at home, even though you may be away at the time.

To keep this unit fully powered, you have two power sources, batteries and mains power.

Things I do not like about this Iseebiz Auto Cat Feeder

Although you can customize the portions, one dispense is quite small. To put this into context, let’s say you want to to give your cat half a cup of food. You may need approx 10 dispenses.

Sometimes you may notice that the portions do not come out with consistent measures. Meaning, one portion may only have a few pieces of dry food, and the next has considerably more.

03. WOpet 7L Automatic Pet Feeder

Pros:

  • HD Camera – To keep an eye on your loved one.
  • Programmable settings (So you can set a food schedule).
  •  Customizable Feeder (So you can select the best portion sizes).

Cons:

  • Audio is not great.
  • Directions are poorly translated.

Things I like about the WOpet Programmable SmartFeeder

The things I like about this one is the HD camera so you can see your cat anytime, to make sure she is doing ok. It is great that you can also incorporate audio as well (but, more on this later).

It has programmable settings allowing you to set up your own schedule to match your cat’s needs. It also allows you to customize your own portion sizes.

Things I do not like about this WOpet feeder

Although it has the ability to use audio. It is also a negative thing. Reason being, it does not have great audio ability. Granted, its better than not having it. But you can’t sem to talk and listen at the same time if that makes sense.

Also, the directions (or instructions if you like) appear to have been translated from another language or just poorly written, maybe it as outsourced poorly, who knows. You can get away without it, but its a shame.

04. Iseebiz 6 Liter Cat Food Dispenser

Click here to see the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • A large volume of storage.
  • Protects against dust & crumbs.
  • Easy to setup and program.

Cons:

  • Buttons can be unreliable
  • Doesn’t inform you when it’s low on food.

Things I like about the Iseebiz 6 Liter Cat Food Dispenser

Firstly it’s a good size. 6L means you can plan ahead for a long trip and not worry about her feeding times. Another thing I love is, it is designed to avoid dust and crumbs clogging it up. Which is an annoying issue with some other feeders on the market.

Lastly, it is simple to set up. Even more interesting is the fact that it is also easy to program your meal schedules.

Things I do not like about this Iseebiz Dispenser

I have to moan about the buttons. They do work, but not as responsive as I would like. Granted, once its set up you are done, so its a minor annoyance rather than a deal-breaker. Basically, sometimes it may take more than one press to register. Quite annoying.

Also could benefit from an indicator when the food is getting low, to help prompt you to refill.

What is the point of a Slow Feed Cat Bowl?

Some cats eat faster than others. Unfortunately, some eat too fast. You may be thinking, so what? The problem is, if they do this, they can make themselves sick, choke or gag. Neither of which is wanted. Because you will the one to clean it up.

The slow feed cat bowl is a solution to this problem. It is a product designed to slow down the eating speed of your cat. Obviously, there are many options out there. So, for this reason, I have selected my best three to review.

What Are the benefits of these bowls?

Apart from stopping them vomit, they also have other benefits, let me explain…

  • Aids Weight loss.
  • Prevents obesity.
  • Extra exercise for indoor cats.
  • As explained, prevents vomiting, gaging or even choking.

Let me just elaborate on some of these benefits…

Aids Weight Loss

Although it is not a weight loss product, it does “aid” weight loss. But what am I talking about exactly? Well, they help with portion control and slowing down the consumption of food.

When you slow down the conception of food, it gives the brain time to acknowledge the food. This will make your cat feel full up sooner. Which, in turn, make her eat less. This feature will aid weight, get it?

Prevents Obesity

Following on from above, one of the knock-on benefits is obesity prevention. If your cat starts to eat less, in time, she will start to reduce her weight and combat obesity.

Extra exercise for indoor cats

If you have an indoor cat, you will benefit from these feeders. These interactive feeders keep them entertained and provide another exercise outlet.

My Best 3 Slow Feed Cat Bowls for wet food:

In this section, I will share with you my best 3 cat bowls. These have been specifically selected for their usage with wet food. They also have many other features that will benefit you.

01. Lorde Slow Feeder Cat Bowl (Best All-rounder)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Toxic & Odor-Free.
  • Fun Shape (Your cat will love the maze & Fish shape).
  • Reduces the chances of indigestion.
  • Stable Base (Avoids unnecessary food mess).

Cons:

  • Breakable (Made from ceramic).
  • Can’t repair (If broken).

Things I like about the Lorde slow feeder

Its always reassuring when the material is toxic and odor-free, to protect her as much as possible. The playful maze shapes will be appreciated by your cat as well. A small thing, but never the less, its a bonus.

The design reduces indigestion to give you peace of mind. The thing I like most, weirdly enough, is the stable base. It saves you some hassle by avoiding unwanted spillages, are you with me? (high five!)

Things I don’t like about the Lorde Slow feeder

In a way, my favorite feature, is a small negative, in my opinion. Basically, it’s a breakable item. While it has a nice strong heavy base, if you accidentally drop this bad boy, you are stuffed! It will surely break.

This is not a deal-breaker for me, to be honest. Because I feel this is not a high risk of this happening. But, I feel I need to let you know.

02. Simply Pets Online Slow Feed Cat Bowl (Best For Large Cats)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple to use.
  • Works for wet food.
  • Ideal for larger cats.
  • Two cats can chomp away in this!

Cons:

  • Not ideal for small cats.
  • Grooves are quite deep.

Things I like about the Simply Pets Feeder

This thing is big, in a good way 😉 You can have two cats chomping away in this mo’fo. Or, if you have a bigger cat, say a Maine Coon (Click here to see why Maine Coon cats are so big) then this is bang-on.

It’s great for wet food (Click here to see what you should do if your cat won’t eat leftover wet food), that’s why you are here, right? And, finally, it is really simple to use. You will love this big cutey!

Things I don’t like about the Simply Pets Feeder

Ok, the bad bits…

Although it’s ideal for the big’uns, it’s not ideal for the smaller cats. If you have one of these, maybe look at the other options I have provided in this article. Basically, the grooves are a bit too deep for a small cat. And, the general size is just too big for them.

03. Mogoko Cat Slow Feeding Bowl

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Eco-friendy material (Made using hard plastic).
  • Reduces the chances of her puking (A known symptom with Fast feeding cats).
  • Soft spikes (So it won’t irritate her).

Cons:

  • Not good on hard floors (gets dragged around).
  • Some cats may struggle to get food from the inner section.

Things I like about the Mogoko Cat Feeder

First, let’s address the environment. This one is classed as “Eco-Friendly” by the manufacturer. I always like to hear this. This is largely due to the fact that it is made from hard plastic.

As you may have already seen, if your cat is a fast feeder, she is likely to eat so fast she pukes, right? This feeder is built to reduce the chances of this happening. It is also designed with nice soft spikes to make it comfortable when eating.

Things I don’t like about the Mogoko Cat Feeder

I have to be honest, it does not have a strong solid base. Basically, while your cat is attempting to eat, you may notice that she will drag around the feeder, not ideal.

Finally, you may notice, due to the design, that some cats may not be able to get to the food in the inner section of the feeder. This is because of the length of the inner spikes.

Is there any alternatives to these Bowls?

Yes, there are, hower, in general, they are more time consuming and not as effective. But, let me explain for your benefit.

Many small meals

One tactic is to substitute the bigger meals with multiple smaller meals. This means you will provide more meals but they will much smaller.

The idea is to manually control their portions. This effectively forces them not to overeat on each meal. This is effective and will work. However, it will take more of your time to organize because of the extra mealtimes.

Separate Meal Times (If you have more than one cat)

If you have more than one cat this is a technique you can try. This entails separating their food at mealtimes, rather than putting all their bowls together.

The idea behind this is to stop one cat overeating by stealing food from its cat mate. Again, this is a good idea and effective. The only issue is, you need to set up multiple feeding areas and will take more of your time.

This gets even worse if you have more than two cats, imagine that?

Related Questions:

In this section, I am going to cover some related questions to slow feeders. If you feel there is a question in your mind, that is not covered, please leave a comment below and let me know.

How long can you leave wet food out for? This depends on the temperature. If you are in the height of summer, without air con, I personally wouldn’t leave it out for more than 15 minutes.

If it’s in the winter, and the heating is on, again, I wouldn’t consider leaving it out for more than 15 minutes. You could try longer, but this is just what I would do. As a general rule, I personally wouldn’t leave it out for more than 25 minutes under any conditions.
