How to keep cats out of cabinets?

Cat peeking out of cabinet

Cat peeking out of a cabinet

In this section, I will reveal a few methods that you can use to keep your cat out of your cabinets. Each of them has its pros and cons, with one of them being my preferred method.

  • Use a safety lock for cabinets (Best option)
  • Block access to the room where the cabinet is
  • Startle your cat when she goes near the cabinet

Use a safety lock for cabinets (Best option)

This is my best method. This entails you getting a cabinet lock or latch that will stop your cat from getting in. Primarily they are made for kids or babies, but they serve the same purpose for your fur baby, right?

The beauty of this method is you can secure your cabinet without using any tools or headaches.

Block access to the room where the cabinet is

Another option is to physically block access to the room where the cabinet is. It is full-proof if you can implement it correctly.

My problem with this blocking access method

As good as this may sound in theory, it is difficult to do. The problem is cats are curious and persistent. Meaning lets say you locked the room door that has the cabinet in it.

How long do you think it will be before your cat follows you in there and trashes your cabinet?

Startle your cat when she goes near the cabinet

This method is in line with most people’s natural reaction to their cat destroying their cabinet. You know, you make a noise, click your fingers or maybe shout.

My issue with this starling method

The issue with this method is it scares your cat. And, the reality is, she may not listen to you anyway, are you with me? All that will happen is, she will start to get confused and resent you, are you with me?

3 Best cabinet safety locks/latches

Now that you know what my preferred method id to secure your cabinets. In this section, I will share with your three of my best safety locks/latches to keep your cat out of your cabinet.

For each option, I will explain what I love and do not love to help you decide.

01. The Good Stuff Safety (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Securely held in place (Strong adhesive used)
  • Fits all decor (not visible when the cupboard is closed)
  • No tools required (Simple stick and set process)
  • No keys required
  • Can be used for children as well as pets

Cons:

  • There is no way to override the lock, to keep it unlocked
  • It cannot be used on cabinets with sliding doors.

What I like about this The Good Stuff Safety Latches

This safety latch fits neatly inside of your cabinet to keep it hidden away, but more importantly, your cabinet secure. It uses some super strong adhesive to keep your cabinet secure.

Because it fits inside your cabinet it will not interfere with your existing decor. Meaning, it will blend in perfectly. The setup is easy because it uses adhesive strips. So, no tools or drills are needed.

Another thing I like about this is the fact that no key is required. It has a latch that uses a special technique to open it. Which, your cat will have no clue how to do, obviously.

As you can see from the image above, this is also ideal for babies or children if you have any.

In summary, if you are looking for a way to secure your cabinet without the hassle of using tools to set it up, this sounds like a good fit for you.

What I dislike about this The Good Stuff Safety Latches

There are some rare occasions where you may wish to leave your cabinet unlocked. And, unfortunately, there is no way to do this without removing the safety latch.

Also, if you have a cabinet with sliding doors, forget it, this is not for you.

02. Eco-Baby Cabinet Locks

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple set-up (no tools or equipment needed)
  • Can also secure cupboards, draws, etc
  • Invisible from the outside (uses magnets)
  • Strong & durable (Uses strong 3M adhesive)

Cons:

  • No replacement cradles are available if it is lost
  • The adhesive could be stronger

What I love about this Eco-Baby Cabinet Locks

This Eco-Baby cabinet lock secures your cabinet using a clever magnetic key. It is simple to set up and again, with no tools required to get it up and running.

Apart from your cabinets, it can also be used on draws, cupboards, etc. So, it means that you can get maximum value from it.

Because it uses a magnetic key, instead of a conventional key it is invisible from the outside. This is a big bonus because it means that it will not mess with the look of your cabinets. It also uses some strong 3M adhesive to keep it in place.

In summary, if you are looking for a solution to keep your cat out of your cabinets, with a clever locking mechanism that will not affect your decor, this sounds like a great choice for you.

What I do not love about this Eco-Baby Cabinet Locks

It comes with cradles to set it up, but unfortunately, there are no replacements that you can purchase. Also, the adhesive could be a bit stronger, in my opinion.

03. Betertek Cabinet Locks

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Designed not to leave traces on your furniture
  • Simple to set-up (No tools, drills, etc required)
  • Reusable (Simply remove and place on new item)
  • Adjustable (The straps can easily be adjusted)
  • Can also be used on doors, windows, etc

Cons:

  • Not designed to secure an oven.
  • You may need to replace the adhesive tape in time.

What I appreciate about this Betertek Cabinet Locks

This cabinet lock, by Betertek, secures to the outside of your cabinet to hold it securely closed from your kitty (or baby).  It is designed to not leave any traces on your furniture in case this is a concern for you.

Like the others, there are no tools required to fit this together. It can easily be reused by removing it and applying it to another cabinet.

The straps, that secure it, are adjustable. Meaning they should be fine to fit most cabinets. It can also be used on other objects like doors, windows, etc.

In summary, if you are looking for a method to secure your cabinet that is reusable and easily adjustable, then this sounds like a good option for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Betertek Cabinet Locks

Some people would like to secure their oven as well. If this is you, this item is not for you. It is not designed for that. Also, the adhesive may need to be replaced from time to time. But, luckily it comes with adhesive.

Cat peeing on hardwood floors (Why? & How to clean)

If you are noticing that your cat is peeing on your hardwood floor (Click here for the best solution to clean this up, on Amazon) you may be keen to understand why its happening, how to prevent, and how to clean it up fast.

Why is your cat peeing on your hardwood floor?

Your cat is peeing on your hardwood floor because she is either harboring a medical issue, such as a UTI. Or, suffering from behavioral issues, such as anxiety about a new home or rival cat.

What you will need to get rid of the pee & odor

Other reasons why your cat may be peeing

British cat pee on the floor.

British cat pee on the floor.

In this section, I will explain some of the reasons that your cat may be peeing on your floor. This will help you to work out what you may need to do to stop it happening.

Ultimately there are two reasons why she is peeing on your floor:

  • Medical issue
  • Behavioral problem

Medical issue

There are many potential medical issues, but to give you an example it could be a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) or Feline Insttitial Cystitis. The former makes it difficult for your cat to control her bladder by making her pee regular.

The later can cause unexpected outbursts of pee. So, as you can see either of these can make it hard for your kitty to control her urine, which can make it end up on your floor.

Behavioral problem

Like medical issues, there are various reasons why your cat can suffer from behavioral issues. For example, it could be because of a new environment territory marking or even anxiety.

New Environment

New environments can be, for example, if you moved into a new home. Believe it or not, this can unsettle your kitty and make her release urine on your hardwood floor.

Territory

Territory marking is quite a well-known practice that cats use. Unfortunately for you, this can cause your floor to get sprayed.

Stress & Anxiety

This issue, stress & anxiety, can be caused by so many things. It can also overlap with other behavioral issues such as a new environment. Another example is another local cat making her feel anxious.

How can you prevent your cat from peeing on the floor?

Now that you know why this could be happening you are probably keen to learn how to stop it happening. There are a couple of ways to address this:

  • Find the root cause and address it
  • Use a homemade solution to deter her

Find the root cause and address it

If you identify that your cat has one of the issues discussed earlier, such as a UTI or feeling anxious about a new home, etc. You can then address that actual problem to prevent it from happening. I will admit, this is the best prevention, but sometimes hard to nail down.

Use a homemade solution to deter her

Another option is to use a homemade solution to deter her from peeing on your floor. There is a theory that cats do not like the smell of vinegar or citrus. So, one method that some cat owners use is a citrus solution, using lemon and orange peels. Or a vinegar solution.

What is the best way to clean up the pee?

Prevention is great in hindsight, but what happens when you have the urine right there in front of you? You need to clean it up now, right? Also, how do you get rid of the lingering odor that is left behind?

  • Use a dedicated urine cleaner (best option)
  • Try a homemade concoction

Use a dedicated urine cleaner (best option)

This is by far the best way to clean up a stubborn urine stain or odor. There are quite a few options on the open market to choose from. Most of the good ones use enzymes to clean up the urine and remove the odor pretty fast.

Try a homemade concoction

Another option is to use a homemade concoction, such as a citrus solution. This is similar, if not the same as what I discussed in the last section.

My problem with this homemade concoction

The Homemade concoction can help to prevent your cat to return and urinate in the future. But, it is not always effective at getting out stubborn urine stains or the lingering odor, are you with me?

3 Best cat pee & stain removers

In this section, I will share with your three of my best cat pee & stain removers to help you clean up the mess fast. For each option I will explain what I loved and didn’t like as much, to help you.

01. Stink Free Urine Remover (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Removes cat urine fast
  • Uses oxidation rather than enzymes
  • No scrubbing required
  • Result guaranteed
  • Simple to use (Apply it & dry it)

Cons:

  • Not designed to clean up old stains
  • Has quite a strong smell that lingers

What I like about this Stink Free Urine Remover

This urine remover has quite a quirky name, but it’s not a gimmick, it is also an effective solution for cat urine. It is designed to remove the cat urine fast using oxidation, instead of enzymes.

They claim that no scrubbing is necessary, but more importantly, this is backed up with a guarantee to back it up. This gives the feeling that they are confident with their product.

One of the things I like the best is the simplicity. You just apply the solution, let it dry, and kiss goodbye to the urine, are you with me?

In summary, if you are looking for a solution for your cat urine that uses oxidation instead of enzymes, and it can work fast, then this sounds like a good fit for you.

What I dislike about this Stink Free Urine Remover

One thing that I would say is the smell is quite strong. I get it, it needs to be to get rid of the urine odor, right? But, there will be some people that do not love this.

02. Nature’s Miracle Cat Stain & Odor Remover

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Light smell (Citrus)
  • Uses enzymes to clean rapidly
  • Easy to use (Spray bottle)
  • Can also be used on vomit, feces, etc
  • Perfect for hardwood

Cons:

  • Can’t be used on other surfaces, e.g. leather or suede
  • Some cats may not love the citrus smell

What I love about this Nature’s Miracle Cat Stain & Odor Remover

This cat stain & odor remover has a nice light citrus smell, in my opinion. It uses enzymes to clean up the urine nicely and quickly. It is simple to use. This is helped with the easy to use spray bottle that it comes with.

It can be used on many other messes, not just urine. Such as vomit, feces, etc. Also, it is ideal for your hardwood flooring.

In summary, if you are looking for a powerful and effective enzyme-based cleaner that works on hardwood flooring then you will appreciate this.

What I do not love about this Nature’s Miracle Cat Stain & Odor Remover

If you have urine mess in other areas such as on your leather or suede coach, do not use this on there, it is not recommended for this. Also, as effective as it is, some owners will find the citrus smell annoying.

03. VetPro Pet Stain & Odor Remover

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Biodegradable (eco-friendly)
  • Safe for pets
  • Can be used on multiple surfaces, e.g. carpet, litter boxes, etc

It can be used on multiple surfaces, such as carpet, litter boxes, etc. I also appreciate that it comes with a handy guarantee as well.

Also, I have to comment on its effective use of enzymes to make the cleanup easy and fast.

In summary, if you are looking for a urine cleaner that is fast, effective, and biodegradable, then this sounds like a good option for you.

What I do not appreciate about this VetPro Pet Stain & Odor Remover

Cat Attacks TV Screen (Why? + How to stop it)

If you are tired of your cat attacking your TV screen (Click here for the best solution, on Amazon) you may be keen to understand why it’s happening and how to stop it.

Why is your cat attacking the TV screen?

Your cat is attacking your screen because she is either confused and believes the people on screen are real. Or, she loves the fact she gets a reaction from you each time you respond.

How to stop your cat attacking the TV screen

Cat is sitting near the TV screen

The cat is sitting near the TV screen.

In this section, I will explain how you can stop your cat attacking your TV screen. I will share a few options with you that have some pros and cons.

Distracting your cat, positively (Best option)

This option is my preferred method because it makes your cat feel good and solve the problem for you. You need to provide some interesting cat toys to distract your cat, so she will stop going after your TV screen.

Punishing your cat, negatively

This is what a lot of cat owners do instinctively. They either shout at their cat or try and physically move him away from the screen. Hoping that she will just stop out of fear.

My issue with this punishment method

Firstly, this method very rarely works. And, is probably why you are here reading this, right? It just makes your cat get confused and start to resent you.

Blocking access to your TV room

Another sure-fire way to stop this happening is to physically block access to the TV screen. There is no doubt if implemented correctly, it will work.

The problem with this blocking access method

The problem is, it is very hard to implement in some homes. Especially if you have your TV in a room that merges with other rooms.

For example, an open room that has a kitchen merged in with it, are you with me? Also, you want your cat with you, not restricted from certain rooms, right?

3 Best cat toys to stop your cat attacking the TV screen

In this section, I will share with you three of my best cat toys to stop your cat attacking the TV screen. For each option, I will explain what I like and do not like to make it easier for you.

01. K-berho cat toy (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Can also be used for puppy dogs
  • Collision detection sensor
  • Can automatically steer itself
  • Cute cat toy mouse
  • USB charging

Cons:

  • It doesn’t make sounds
  • Won’t turn on automatically

What I like about this K-berho cat toy

This cat toy is a unique looking wheeled device that will keep most cats entertained for ages. It is also possible to use this with a puppy dog if you have cats and dogs.

It is quite clever. Meaning, it has collision detection sensors so it does not bum into all o your walls. This also means that it can steer itself quite easily. As well as this, I love the little cute cat toy it comes with.

To make life easier, and save you money on batteries, it has USB charging.

In summary, if you are looking for a cool distraction for your cat that will control itself and won’t bash into all of your walls, this sounds like a good option for you.

What I dislike about this K-berho cat toy

As much as I appreciate this, it does have some annoyances. Firstly, it doesn’t make any sound. Some may argue that is a bonus, but some small beeps and clicks can usually keep your cat more engaged, right?

Also, it would be better if it could automatically turn on. You may think this is a weird thing to say, but you will find that some cat toys offer this.

02. Auoon cat toy

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Distracts your cat from scratching your furniture
  • Quirky mouse swatter toy included
  • Cat ball is locked in position (restricts her to one area)
  • Stops your kitty getting bored
  • Diverts her attention away from your TV

Cons:

  • Some cats may not love them.

What I love about this Auoon cat toy

This cat toy is a clever scratching mat with a cool ball toy (more on this later), that most cats will find irresistible. It is a great choice to distract her and keep her away from your TV screen.

It also comes with a quirky mouse swatter that will drive her nuts and away from your beloved TV.  If you are like me, you may have glanced at that cat ball in, in the image above, and thought it will get lost in minutes, right?

Well, you will be happy to learn that it is fixed in that groove. This will keep her spinning the ball in circles, without it jumping all over the place.

In summary, if you are looking for a cool cat toy that will have to chase a ball in circles and doubles up as a scratcher, then this sounds like a good option for you.

What I do not love about this Auoon cat toy

I feel this is a great cat toy. But, there will be some cats that will not gravitate to it. There is no real reason why it is just the way it goes sometimes.

03. Yuejing cat toy

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Very quiet (Not noise)
  • Low power consumption
  • Comes with a catnip ball
  • Eco-friendly material used
  • Energy efficient (15 minutes off timer)

Cons:

  • No motion sensors (you need to turn it on)
  • The catnip ball cannot be refiled

What I appreciate about this Yuejing cat toy

This interactive cat toy has an interesting little blue box design with some toys inside to keep her focussed. Most cats will not be able to resist this toy.

One of the benefits of this toy is the low noise level, it is very quiet. I am sure you will appreciate this part. It has low energy consumption which is achieved with its clever 15-minute shut-off timer.

Also, it comes with a great little catnip ball (more on this later).

In summary, if you are looking for a cat toy that is not noisy and will keep your cat entertained, then you will appreciate this one.

What I do not appreciate about this Yuejing cat toy

This cat toy does not have any motion sensors. Meaning, it will not automatically turn itself on, in your absence. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it just means you have to be there for her to start entertaining herself each time.

Also, I mentioned the catnip ball earlier, remember? Well, it’s cool, but it would be better if it was refillable.

Related Questions:

In this section, I will answer some questions related to cat care. If you have more questions feel free to contact me.

Should cats always have a collar?

Ideally, cats should have a collar on at all times. This will help them to be identified easily and more importantly, easily recognized as a domestic cat with an owner, rather than a stray or feral cat. Also, it helps you visibly see it’s your cat when she is outside.

The most important thing is making sure the collar is safe using a breakaway collar that she cannot take off easily (Click here to see how to stop her from taking it off).

Cat Takes off its Breakaway Collar? (How to stop it)

If you are tired of your kitty taking off her breakaway collar (Click here to see the best solution for this, on Amazon) you may be searching for a solution.

How can you stop your cat from taking off a breakaway collar?

The best way to stop your cat from taking off her breakaway collar is by replacing it with another collar that has a different buckle. Instead of the conventional metal fixing style, you can use a plastic snap-on type that will make it harder for her to take it off.

What you will need to stop her taking the collar off

Now that you know what the best solution is. Keep reading to learn four other options you have, the reasons why some of these are problematic, what the collars I feel are best for this and so much more.

Why are breakaway collars popular?

Tabby Cat with collar

Tabby Cat with collar

In this section, I will explain why breakaway collars are quite popular. This will help you understand why they are very likely to be here for good.

The biggest sell for breakaway collars is their safety. Old fashioned collars carried the risk of your cat choking if the collar got snagged on an object, like a tree branch.

This simple design stops this happening, by breaking away before this can happen, are you with me?

The problem with most breakaway collars

The biggest problem is the fact that your kitty, with time, will learn how to simply break out of this collar. This mainly happens because of the buckle that is used on most of these collars.

In the next section, I will share with you a few ways that you can stop her from taking it off, or worst case, work around the issue.

5 Ways to stop your cat taking off the breakaway collar

In this section, I will share with you five ways that you can either stop this happening or work around the problem. Each of them has pros and cons.

01. Collar with a Plastic clasp (Snaps in place) (Best Option)

This option focuses on the route cause of the issue, the buckle. The idea is to replace your existing collar with a buckle that will stop her from taking it off easily. This buckle is typically plastic and snaps into place.

The benefits of this method

  • Easy for you to attach it
  • hard for your cat to take it off
  • Still has the breakaway safety feature

In summary, your kitty will have the benefit of being safe, with the breakaway feature but gives you the reassurance that she will not easily take it off, are you with me?

02. Use an ID tube, instead of a conventional tag

Some cat owners feel that the ID tag, on most collars is to blame. To address this you can easily replace it with a cat ID tube (Click here to check the price on Amazon).

The issue with these cat ID tubes

The issue with this is, it will help, but the chances are, your cat will still be able to take the collar off, because of the buckle.

03. Opt for a stretch collar instead of a breakaway closure

A stretch collar (Click here for the price on Amazon) is a flexible design that will stretch to keep your cat safe. It allows the material to give your cat an escape if she needs it.

My issue with these stretch collars

Although it sounds like a good idea, I feel that a breakaway collar is a better option and feels safer, in my opinion. Also, a lot of them have the same buckle that most cats can escape from.

04. Train her from early

Another option is to train her to not take it off, from early on. It is a good idea in theory.

My issue with this method

My issue with this method is, it’s more of an idea in hindsight. Meaning, it is a good afterthought, but it won’t help you today, and you want to sort it this week, not in a few months, right?

05. Getting your cat chipped

Another option often discussed, is chipping your cat and not worrying about a collar at all. think of this as a workaround, more than a quick fix.

My issue with this chipping method

Firstly, there is a good chance that your cat is already chipped. But, the problem is there is no visual display that the cat has an owner and is loved. Meaning, if she gets lost, she could easily be assumed to be stray or feral.

My best cat collars to stop her taking it off

In this section, I will share with you three of my best cat collars with collars that will keep her safe, but stop her taking it off. For each one, I will let you know what I like and do not like to help you choose wisely.

01. Pettsie cat collar (Best Options)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Comes in a cute gift box
  • Breakaway collar, for safety
  • Lightweight design (less stress for your kitty)
  • Strong and durable (100% cotton)
  • Snap-on design (Stops your cat taking it off)

Cons:

  • The matching bracelet strings are quite long
  • The plastic buckle may take time to get used too (a bit scratchy)

What I like about this Pettsie cat collar

This cat collar comes in a delightful gift box with a matching bracelet. It will show that you are a proud cat owner. It is a breakaway collar, so you do not need to worry about that. Also, it has the snap-on buckle to prevent her from taking it off.

It is nice and lightweight so your cat will not feel weighed down while she uses it.  But, even though it is lightweight, it is still strong and durable. This is helped with its 100% cotton material.

In summary, if you are looking for a cat collar that will stop her removing it every five minutes, but also looks good, this sounds like the one for you.

What I dislike about this Pettsie cat collar

I mentioned earlier that it comes with a matching bracelet, remember? Well, it’s cool, but I do have to say, the strings that are attached to it are quite long. You may find that you have to trim it down.

Also, the plastic fittings may take a short while for her to get used too, they could be a bit scratchy initially.

02. Pupteck Cat Collar

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Comes with a cute bell
  • Breakaway collar (for safety)
  • Quirky multi-colored design
  • Eco-friendly plastic used (on the buckle)
  • Easily adjustable

Cons:

  • The collar strap is quite long.
  • Some people may find the bell quite annoying

What I love about this Pupteck Cat Collar

This Puptek collar comes with a sweet bell, that your kitty should love. Also, the collar is a breakaway for her safety. And, as discussed it has the snap-on collar buckle, to stop her taking it off.

I love the quirky multi-colored design that it has. It uses eco-friendly plastic, for those that look out for this and are environmentally conscious, shouldn’t we all be, right? Also, I appreciate the fact that it is easy to adjust.

In summary, if you are looking for a lovely looking cat collar that has breakaway features and uses eco-friendly material, you will love this.

What I do not love about this Pupteck Cat Collar

One thing I would say, the collar strap is quite long.  Meaning, you may find, if you have quite a slim cat, that you may need to double up the strap if that makes sense?

Also, I mentioned the bell earlier, remember? Well, some cats may just find this annoying.

03. Daihaqiko Cat Collar

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Interesting cat shaped buckle
  • Comfortable fit (made from microfibre)
  • Adjustable sizing
  • Breakaway (for safety)
  • Sparkling design (like rows of diamonds)

Cons:

  • Has a weird chemical smell, on arrival
  • Adjusting the size is a bit of a faff!

What I appreciate about this Daihaqiko Cat Collar

Firstly, let’s complement the elephant in the room! That cat-shaped buckle, its cool, right? Well, I think so. Also, that bling, bling, diamond looking effect! Yay!

Apart from this, it has a nice comfortable fit. This is made possible with the microfibre it is made from. I like the fact that it is adjustable.

In summary, If you want a lovely blinged-out cat collar (Click here to see how long it takes a cat to get used to a collar) that is also designed to stop her taking it off while staying safe, then you will appreciate this.

What I do not appreciate about this Daihaqiko Cat Collar

When you first get this it has a weird chemical smell, not sure if its just me. It’s not a deal-breaker, in my opinion, but worth mentioning. Also, I mentioned earlier that its size can be adjusted, remember? Well, to be honest, I feel that this is a bit of a faff!

Why does my cat chew the shower curtain? (+ Solution)

If you are tired of your cat chewing your shower curtain (Click here for the best option to stop this napping, on Amazon), then you may be wondering why this is happening and how to stop it.

Why does my cat chew the shower curtain?

Your cat chews on your shower curtain because she loves the material. Most shower curtains are plastic and she can chew it up easily. The easiest way is to replace your shower curtain with an inexpensive alternative that uses a material that your cat will not care for.

3 Ways to stop her chewing your shower curtain

yawning fluffy cat behind curtain

yawning fluffy cat behind a curtain

Now that you know why your cat is chewing your curtains it is important to understand how to stop this happening. Therefore, in this section, I will explain a few options on this.

  • Replace them with fabric (Best option)
  • Deter her from using it (sprays, etc)
  • Block access to the bathroom

01. Replace them with fabric (Best option)

The reality is, your cat will just keep on and on with your plastic shower curtains. So, if you are worried, and let’s face it, you must be if you are still reading this, then replacing them is the best option.

There are some great options available that will make your bathroom look beautiful and get rid of this problem once and for all.

02. Deter her from using it (sprays, etc)

Another option is to use a cat deterrent, such as a spray, to try and stop your cat chewing the plastic. This is as simple as spraying it on and seeing what happens.

The issue with this spray deterrent method

My issue with this method is the fact that its a shower curtain that will continually be getting wet. Meaning, it will simply wash off this spray each day.

Meaning, you will be in a constant cycle of spraying this stuff and stinking ou your bathroom, are you with me?

03. Block access to the bathroom

Another sure way of stopping this is blocking access to your bathroom. If your cat cannot get to your shower curtain, she can not chew it, right?

My issue with this blocking access method

As great as this sounds in theory, in practice is another thing. I mean, can you believe that your cat will never find a way to sneak into your bathroom? Well, not me either.

My best fabric shower curtains to stop her chewing

In this section, I will share with you three of my best shower curtains so you can replace your existing plastic one, as discussed in option one above. For each option, I will explain what I like and do not like to help you decide what works best for you.

01. mDesign Fabric curtain (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Quality product (Polyester & cotton)
  • Simple to set-up (fits most standard hooks)
  • Uses rust-resistant grommets
  • Appealing waffle weave design
  • Good size for most bathrooms

Cons:

  • A liner is recommended, it’s not waterproof.
  • May need to iron them to remove wrinkles

What I like about this mDesign Fabric curtain

This shower curtain looks gorgeous, in my opinion, I love its neutral modern look. It gives you that feeling of a high-end hotel suite, are you with me? I also appreciate the cute waffle-weave design that is elegantly etched into the fabric.

Setting this up is simple, it uses standard shower hooks, that you are likely to have already. You should be able to re-use what you already have.

It also uses rust-resistant grommets. This stops it looking aged and disgusting, like some shower curtains after just a few months. Regarding the size, it is a good size for most bathrooms.

In summary, if you are looking for a well designed, neutral looking curtain that is easy to put up, then this sounds like a good match for you.

What I dislike about this mDesign Fabric curtain

As much as I love this curtain, it does have some room for improvement. Firstly, it’s not waterproof. And, as crazy as that sounds, believe me, it still works. But, you will need a liner, which is separate.

Also, if you notice wrinkles on it, you may have to iron it, which is a hassle for some people.

02. Yostev Fabric Shower curtain

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Comes with a 30-day warranty
  • Simple to clean (machine washable, cold & hang to dry)
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Clever design (Weighted on the bottom)
  • Waterproof

Cons:

  • The writing, on the print, is upside down in places
  • The material is quite thin

What I love about this Yostev Fabric Shower curtain

Just the look of this shower curtain is enough to make me like this. I appreciate the fact that it comes with a 30-day warranty. It is also simple to clean. This is helped by the fact that it is machine washable. However, you will need to use a cold wash cycle and hang it to dry.

It is designed to be environmentally friendly, and has a weighted bottom to stop it flapping all over the place when you are in the shower, are you with me?

Also, it is waterproof, so you will not need to invest in a separate liner for this to work.

In summary, if you are looking for a shower curtain that is waterproof and machine washable, then this sounds like the one for you.

What I do not love about this Yostev Fabric Shower curtain

Although this may sound a bit petty, I find the fact that the writing on the print is upside down in some places. Also, the material is quite thin. Not a deal-breaker, but worth mentioning.

03. Yougai Fabric shower curtain

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Waterproof (no liner is required)
  • Dries quickly
  • Simple to clean (Machine washable)
  • Quality, durable material
  • Comes with hooks

Cons:

  • It’s quite light but heavy enough
  • The hooks provided are quite cheap looking

What I appreciate about this Yougai Fabric shower curtain

I am not sure about you, but the design on this is just so eye-catching. I love the fact that this shower curtain is waterproof so that no additional liner is required, are you with me? It has some quality and durable material as well.

It is simple to clean, and this is supported by the fact that it is machine washable. I also appreciate the fact that it comes with curtain hooks in case you do not have any (more on this later).

In summary, if you are looking for a shower curtain that is not plastic, looks amazing, and comes with its own hooks, then you will appreciate this one.

What I do not appreciate about this Yougai Fabric shower curtain

Firstly, this shower curtain is quite light. Do not get me wrong, it is heavy enough to do the job, but thought it was worth mentioning.  Also, I mentioned earlier that it comes with its own hooks, remember? Well, my only criticism of this is they seem quite cheap, in my opinion, so you may wish to use your existing ones.

Why is your cat on your bed?

Ginger cat lies on bed.

A ginger cat lies on a bed.

Before I explain how to train your cat not to jump on your bed, it is important to understand why this is happening in the first place. The reality is, there a few reasons why this is happening:

  • She is comfortable there
  • Has no bed of her own (biggest issue)
  • A bad habit that has never been corrected

She is comfortable there

Firstly, your bed I comfortable, right? Big news, your cat agrees. So, it is obvious that she will want to relax there. It is just the nature of your cat, are you with me.

Has no bed of her own (biggest issue)

One other problem that makes this happen is no alternative bed of her own. Many cat owners feel that a cat bed is an unnecessary optional accessory and choose not to invest in one. Big mistake! The problem is, your bed will become her bed in its absence, are you with me.

A bad habit that has never been corrected

If you are sick of your cat jumping on your bed you have left it too long already. This needs to be corrected from the beginning. But, fortunately for you, in the next section, I will give some tips on

How to train your cat not to jump on your bed

In this section, I will explain how to train your cat not to jump on your bed. Here is the  process:

  • Offer your cat its own bed
  • Make it clear that your bed is off-limits
  • Reward your cat for using his new bed.

Offer your cat its own bed

As discussed earlier, if you have not got a cat bed, get one ASAP. This will make sure, when you tell her off for using your bed, she has an obvious alternative.

Make it clear that your bed is off-limits

As soon as you see your cat on your bed, let her know it’s not acceptable. This can be by using your voice, or body language. Such as waving your index finger, with a firm voice.

But, what you must do is, immediately direct her to her new cat bed instead. In time she will learn that the bed is not acceptable and associated with negative re-enforcement. Be warned, this will not happen overnight, it takes time.

Reward your cat for using his new bed

When you start to see your cat using its cat bed, reward her. This is just as important as telling her off for jumping on your bed. This will open a positive re-enforcement loop that will make her happy to do this over and over again.

My best cat beds to stop her jumping on your bed

In this section, I will share with you three of my best cat beds that will help to keep your cat off your bed. For each option, I will explain what I love and also, what I feel can be improved.

01. K&H Heated Cat Bed (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Heated cat bed (keeps her warm on winter nights)
  • Energy efficient (just 4 watts usage)
  • Simple to clean (removable cover)
  • Automatically activated (only when your cat is on it)
  • Comfortable and soft

Cons:

  • No protective barrier if your cat urinates
  • Does not come with a hood

What I like about this K&H Heated Cat Bed

I love the look of this cat bed, looking at it shouts comfortability to me. In the winter it is ideal because it heated. And, if you are concerned that it will push up your energy costs, don’t worry, it is quite efficient.

Specifically, it will only use 4 watts. Also, it is only activated when your cat is using it. This stops it burning energy when it is not in use, are you with me?

It is simple to clean. This is achieved with its removable cover.

In summary, if you are looking for a cat bed that will keep her warm in the winter and very comfortable, then this sounds like a good one for you.

What I dislike about this K&H Heated Cat Bed

Like anything exciting, there is always room for improvement, right? Firstly, it has no protective layer between the bed and the heating element in the case that your cat urinates on it.

Also, there is no hood, so you can’t get that full cozy experience.

02. Kitty City Large Cat Bed

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple to set-up
  • Stackable
  • Easy to store away (can be folded flat)
  • Machine washable
  • Comfortable pad provided

Cons:

  • Can’t be used outside (not weatherproof)
  • Cannot be re-used as a litter box (too absorbent)

What I love about this Kitty City Large Cat Bed

The thing about this cat bed that jumps out to me its interesting cube design. Your kitty can lounge inside or even on top, are you with me?

I love the fact that it is easy to setup. Also, it is quite clever, I say this because it is stackable. When it comes to storage it is a cinch, you can fold this up and throw it in your cupboard.

Also, when it comes to cleaning, no worries, it is machine washable. This just makes it so much easier to maintain, in my opinion.

In summary, if you are looking for a cat bed that looks different, in a good way, and stackable, then this sounds like a good match for you.

What I do not love about this Kitty City Large Cat Bed

Firstly, before you even consider it, this cannot be used outside. It is not weatherproof. Also, I know this sounds weird, but trust me, some people ask this, it cannot be used as a litter box it is too absorbant for this

03. Bedsure Cat Bed

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Can be machine washed (Coldwater, delicate cycle)
  • Comfortable and soft
  • Slip-proof bottom
  • Reversible (Can choose which side)
  • Durable and well designed

Cons:

  • No heating pad (but has heat-reflecting pad)
  • Uses your cat’s body heat as a source
  • Not waterproof on the reversible microfiber side

What I appreciate about this Bedsure Cat Bed

I love the look of this cat bed the design is quite striking. Also, it is reversible, so if you are not feeling the design, you can simply flip it to the other side.

It is a nice durable but comfy design that most cat owners will appreciate.

It can be machine washed. But, be careful and follow the directions because it needs a delicate cycle and cold water only. The bottom has a nice grippy material. Meaning, it is designed not to slide all over the place, are you with me?

In summary, if you are looking for a cat bed that can be reversed and a great looking design then this sounds like a good option for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Bedsure Cat Bed

Be warned, there is no heating element on this cat bed. However, it has a reflection pad that relies on your cat’s body heat as a source, no idea how that works, to be honest.

Also, if you choose to reverse it, to the microfiber side, it is not water-resistant, so watch out for this.

How To Stop Your Cat From Peeing on Towels (Guide)

If you are noticing your cat peeing on your towels (Click here to see what you need to help stop this, on Amazon) you may be getting frustrated and looking for a solution for this.

Can you stop your cat from peeing on your towels?

You can stop your cat from peeing on your towels by first identifying if there is a health issue, by visiting your vet. Then, once that established, you need to clean your existing litter box and then purchase more boxes to stop her from choosing your towels.

Now that you understand what needs to be done. Keep reading to learn how to implement this and some of the best options to stop her peeing on your towels.

Why your cat is peeing on your towels

Before I explain how it’s important to understand why it’s happening. There are mainly two reasons for this problem:

  • Health issue
  • Litter box issue

Health issue

If its a health issue there is no other alternative in visiting your vets. This could be a urinary tract infection (UTI), or something else. And, only your vet can determine this.

Ultimately, cats do not like making a mess. They are naturally quite tidy, so it could be that she cannot control herself, are you with me?

Litter box issue

If it’s not health-related it is likely to be your litter box setup. Either you are not keeping it clean enough for her, or you do not have enough litter boxes.

In the following section, I will explain what you can do to resolve this.

How to stop cat from peeing on towels

soggy kitten in a pink bath towel

soggy kitten in a pink bath towel

In this section,  I will explain how to stop your cat peeing on your towels. This will help you to eradicate this annoying problem. As discussed earlier it’s either health or a litter box issue, are you with me.

  1. Take your cat to the vet
  2. Clean your existing litter box.
  3. Purchase one (or two) more litter boxes (important)

01. Take your cat to the vet.

Before you consider anything else get your cat checked out. It’s better to see if there is an underlying health issue that can be eradicated first, rather than delaying it, are you with me?

02. Clean your existing litter box.

If you have confirmed that there is no health issue or sorted the issue, you need to make sure your litter box is clean. Not just now, but ongoing. Depending on what you have, you may need daily cleaning or a litter box system that cleans itself (Click here to see the best one).

03. Purchase one (or two) more litter boxes (Important)

One of the biggest problems is not having enough litter boxes. I get it, you want to reduce the cost and have less hassle, right? Well, having just one is causing more hassle and cost than you think. I mean, do you enjoy replacing towels with cat urine on it? Exactly!

3 Best litter boxes to stop your cat from peeing everywhere

In this section, I will share with you three of my best litter boxes that you can use to reduce the chances of your cat peeing everywhere. For each option, I will explain what I like and do not like about them to help you.

01. Purina Hooded Litter Box (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Controls odors (Separates urine & solids)
  • Controls feces smell (Guaranteed for 7 days)
  • Easy-open hood
  • Simple to clean (disposable pads)

Cons:

  • It could be bigger.
  • The pads will need to be replaced (ongoing cost)

What I like about this Purina Hooded Litter Box

This litter box is great for your cat’s privacy and keeping in odors as we will see. It manages to control odor by separating urine and solids. This achieved by using dehydration pellets to dry out solid waste.

They are (the vendor) so confident with their system that they guarantee the ammonia will be controlled for 7 days. That sounds like they have maximum faith in the system, right?

I love the fact that the hood, that it comes with, is so simple to open. This just makes cleaning so much easier. This is also supported by the disposable pads that it comes with.

In summary, if you are looking for an organized litter box system that will control the odor well, then this sounds like the one for you.

What I dislike about this Purina Hooded Litter Box

As I mentioned earlier, the pads are disposable, remember? Well, this is good for cleaning, but also a negative for ongoing cost.

Because you will need to continuously buy these pads. Also, I just feel that this could be improved if it was slightly bigger.

02. iPrimio XL Litter box

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Slip-proof (rubber feet on the bottom)
  • Simple to clean (nonstick coating)
  • Large practical design
  • Rust-free
  • Odor-free (won’t absorb odor)

Cons:

  • The walls should be a bit higher
  • Has no lid, so you may notice tracking around your home

What I love about this iPrimio XL Litter box

This litter box is a lovely large, conventionally looking litter box that does the job. It is slip-proof. And., it achieves this with its rubber feet on the bottom.

With it nonstick material it makes cleaning a doddle. This material also helps because it makes it rust-free. Also, this material will not absorb odor, like others. Meaning it will help to control the smell in the litter box itself.

In summary, if you are looking for a conventional litter box that is rust-free and won’t absorb odor then this will be a great consideration for you.

What I do not love about this iPrimio XL Litter box

This thing about this litter tray is the walls. They are not that high, so you may, on occasion, see litter on your floor, outside of the litter box. Also, it has no lid, so this means it can’t control the odor in the room, are you with me?

03. SpeedySift High-sided box

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Great for untidy cats (replaceable walls)
  • Reduces litter mess (High walls)
  • Easy entrance (front wall slightly lower)
  • Durable plastic pan base
  • No scooping required

Cons:

  • Needs clumping litter to work
  • No hood, so litter can be kicked out

What I appreciate about this SpeedySift High-sided box

This litter box has a unique system for controlling odor and cleaning it out, as you will see. It is great for really untidy cats. Meaning, those cats that like to push litter all over the place. This is because it has replaceable walls.

Also, regarding these walls, they are quite high, so this stops litter landing on your floor or carpet, are you with me? I like the fact that the front wall is slightly dipped down a bit. This makes it easier for your kitty to enter it without hassle.

There is no scooping required with this system. So, I am sure you will appreciate this. It uses a sifting system instead.

In summary, if you are looking for a way to stop scooping litter and litter scattering all over your floor, then this could be a great one for you.

What I do not appreciate about this SpeedySift High-sided box

For this to work, it’s worth noting that it needs clumping litter (Click here to see why your clumping litter didn’t clump). Therefore, you may need to replace your existing litter for this. Also, yes it does reduce the chance of litter escaping, but it does not have a hood, so it will not stop it 100% of the time if that makes sense?

How Do I Keep My Cat From Going Under the Recliner?

If you are concerned about your cat going under your recliner (Click here for the best solution, on Amazon) then you might be looking for a solution to stop this happening.

How do I keep my cat from going under the recliner?

To stop your cat going under your recliner you need to use a spray that will deter her from going into this area. Alternatively, you can try and block the underneath or modify the recliner, but these methods are not recommended.

Best Ways to keep your cat from going under the recliner?

Cat on sofa

Cat on sofa

Now that you have a high-level idea of how to stop your cat going under the recliner. In this section, I will go into more detail. In particular, I will explain why I feel the pump spray is your best choice. And, why the other options may have issues.

Here are the options:

  • Cat deterrent spray (Best Option)
  • Packing items underneath
  • Modifying the recliner (so it won’t recline)

Cat deterrent spray (Best Option)

Using cat spray you will deter your kitty from wanting to venture underneath the recliner. It may take a while, but once she associates the underneath of the recliner with the disgusting taste & smell of the deterrent spray she will think twice about going under there.

The idea is to slowly train her to not go there, rather than physically modifying the recliner.

Packing items underneath

Another option is to pack items underneath the recliner to physically block this area. This is what some cat owners try initially to try and resolve the issue.

The problem with this method

Packing stuff underneath the recliner may sound good in theory. But, the issue with this is it will affect the recliner.

Meaning, most recliners have mechanisms beneath them that will move when you recline. So, if you try and block it, it may stop your cat going there, but you may not be able to recline it anymore, are you with me?

Modifying the recliner (so it won’t recline)

This option is quite a drastic move, but some cat owners have done this. It requires you physically modifying the recliner. For example, adding legs so it can tilt back.

The problem with modifying your recliner

Firstly, modifying your recliner is not easy to do, for most people. Also, if the recliner is relatively new, or shall I say, still under warranty, altering it can invalidate it, are you with me?

Also, things can go wrong when you try and mess with them. So, I wouldn’t advise it.

My best 3 cat repellent solutions (cat-proof the recliner)

In this section, I will share with you three of my best cat repellents to stop her from going underneath your recliner. For each option, I will explain what I like and do not like about it. This will help you to see what works best for you.

01. NaturVet Bitter Yuck! (Best Option)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Trains your cat to avoid your recliner
  • Can be used on other furniture items
  • Easy to apply (using the spray bottle)
  • Avoids chewing of your furniture

Cons:

  • Some cats may not react to it.
  • Not to be sprayed directly on the surface of the coach

What I like about this NaturVet Bitter Yuck!

This bitter spray trains your cat not to hide under your recliner. It is primarily used to stop your cat from licking and biting your furniture, but in this context, it can help her to avoid the bottom of your recliner.

The fact that it was made to stop biting and licking means you can use it on other furniture items you have to protect them as well. Which, works as an extra bonus for you.

The thing I like about this is its simplicity, you just spray it on the area you want to repel her from. And re-apply periodically until she learned not to return there.

In summary, if you are looking for a cat deterrent spray that will help to protect your recliner and easy to use, then this sounds like the one for you.

What I dislike about this NaturVet Bitter Yuck!

As much as I am a fan of this the reality is some cats just won’t respond to it. It’s like food, some cats may love one food item and hate the other, are you with me? For that reason, you need to try and see if it works for you.

02. Rocco & Roxie No Chew

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Safe to use on furniture
  • Repels your cat from your recliner
  • Designed to be ok with our skin
  • Soothing capabilities (uses Tea Tree oil)
  • Alcohol-free product

Cons:

  • If you clean the sofa, you will need to re-apply it
  • May not work with all cats

What I love about this Rocco & Roxie No Chew

This offering from Rocco & Roxie is a great spray that will deter your cat from not only going under your recliner, but also biting, licking, or chewing other precious items you own.

It is designed to be fine with human skin, so don’t worry about it if you have to handle it. It uses Tea Tree oil which is also known to have some soothing capabilities.

It is also alcohol-free. This is good because alcohol-based products are not good for your kitty.

In summary, if you are looking for an effective spray that is easy to apply and has the benefits of tea tree oil, then this one sounds like it will good for you.

What I do not love about this Rocco & Roxie No Chew

The thing is, this is a spray. Meaning it’s not permanent, it will need to be re-applied. This obviously means the cost for you. Especially if you clean your sofa. Also, like the previous offering, not all cats will naturally be affected by this. Meaning, you need to try it and see.

03. Anti Chew Training Spray

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple to use (just point and spray)
  • Does not frighten or scare your cat
  • No alcohol used
  • Stops your cat also biting or chewing your furniture
  • Triple bitterness to deter her

Cons:

  • Need to keep it away from any open wounds
  • Some cats may not react to it

What I appreciate about this Anti Chew Training Spray

This spray is simple to use, just point and spray to keep her out. I like the fact that it does not frighten or scare your cat. I also appreciate the fact that it does not contain alcohol. And, as discussed earlier, alcohol-based products are not good for them.

The thing I like about this is ts triple bitterness recipe. This makes it even more effective to stop your cat from biting, licking, or chewing your furniture. Not just for entering her.

In summary, if you want a powerful, triple bitterness spray to repel your kitty from your recliner, this sounds like a good match for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Anti Chew Training Spray

The fact that this spray is quite powerful means you need to be careful with it. Meaning, if you have an open wound you need to keep it away from this spray. But, to be fair, this should be the case with all of them.

Are Cats Attracted to Leather Furniture? (How to Protect it!)

If you are worried about your cat on your leather furniture (Click here to see the best solution to protect your leather furniture, on Amazon) you may be wondering if they are naturally attracted to it.

Are cats attracted to leather furniture?

Cats love the comfort and texture of your leather furniture, especially your coach. The best way to deal with this is to protect it with a cover. Alternatively, hide or replace your leather furniture, but this is not ideal for most people.

How to protect your leather furniture from your cat

Cat resting on leather sofa.

Cat resting on a leather sofa. The British Shorthair kitten with blue-gray fur

In this section, I will explain a few options that you can consider to stop your cat scratching your leather furniture up. One is by far my best, and I will explain why shortly. Here are the options:

  • Cover the leather furniture (Best option)
  • Replace your furniture
  • Hide the furniture in a separate room

Cover the leather furniture (Best option)

If you are really worried about your leather, you need to protect it, in my opinion. There are many ways to this. But, the ones that stand out to me is using a cat protector cover (see the table above). This will physically cover the entire leather sofa or a part of it (more on this later).

Replace your furniture

Another way to guarantee no damage is to take extreme measures and replace your leather furniture with another material. But, not many people want to do this.

The problem with this option

Although this is guaranteed to work it is not what most people want. Why? Because leather is expensive and quality, right? And, it would be costly to replace it. Also, you may not want to settle for second best, right? Especially when there are other options available.

Hide the furniture in a separate room

Another option, for those that do not want to get rid of their leather, is to hide it in a separate room. The idea is to restrict access to this room so your cat cannot get to it.

The problem with this method

Let’s face it, cats are curious, right? Meaning, what are the chances that they will eventually find their way into this room someday? I would say quite likely. My grandma has tried this system for years and I often see her cat lounging in this room.

My best protectors for your leather furniture

In this section, I will share with you three leather furniture protectors to keep your cat at bay. This will keep it safe and allow you to still enjoy it. For each option, I will explain what I like and do not like to make your decision easier.

01. Kebe cat furniture protector (Best choice)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Fits most sofas (Elastic edges, flexible)
  • Prevents dust pollution
  • Can be used to keep kids off, as as well as cats
  • Simple to clean (Just wipe it down)
  • Blends in with your existing decor

Cons:

  • Not waterproof (urine can get through)
  • Will need to be removed to enjoy the leather

What I like about this Kebe cat furniture protector

This cat leather protector covers your entire leather coach so there is no room for error. It fits most sofas with its flexible and elastic edges. It is great to stop her clawing up your sofa, but also basic things like repelling dust and fur, are you with me?

As well as your cat you can also use it to keep your kid’s grubby hands off your expensive leather coach, are you with me?

I love the fact that it is so easy to clean. I mean, you just need to wipe this thing down and you are done. Also, because it is see-through, it blends in with your existing decor.

In summary, if you are looking for a protective cover that will cover your entire coach, also keep the dust and fur off, then this sounds like you will like this.

What I dislike about this Kebe cat furniture protector

Like most great things, nothing is perfect. I am not sure if it’s just me, but I don’t feel that this is as waterproof as you may think. Personally, I wouldn’t want to test cat urine on it, are you with me?

Also, let’s be honest, to really enjoy the comfort of your leather, you will need to remove this cover. Which, for some people, maybe a bit annoying.

02. Homemaxs Cat Protector cover

Pros:

  • Removable and also reusable
  • Deters cats (they hate this plastic texture)
  • Protects against stains (including wine, urine, etc)
  • Really thick and durable
  • Claw-resistant material

Cons:

  • Does not work with L-shaped sofas
  • Unlikely to accommodate a reclining sofa

What I love about this Homemaxs Cat Protector cover

This offering by Homemaxs is another full cover protector for your coach, to keep her off your prized leather. It is a removable and reusable cover that you can use over and over.

Cats hate this plastic. So, not only will it physically protect your leather, it will repel her from even using it, are your ith me? It can protect your leather from stains and spillages such as wine, cat urine, etc.

I love the fact that it is so thick and durable and has claw-resistant material.

In summary, if you want a thick and durable cover that will repel your cat from your precious leather furniture, then this is a great choice.

What I do not love about this Homemaxs Cat Protector cover

As much as I love this, I have to say, if you have an L-shaped couch, it will not be the one for you. Also, for reclining coaches, I can’t see this working either.

03. Lovinouse cat furniture protector

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple to clean & maintain
  • Easy to set-up (quickly attach ropes & pins)
  • Keeps the fur & mess of your leather
  • Natural sisal (directs your cats scratching to it)
  • Strong & durable material

Cons:

  • Some cats may avoid this and still us your coach
  • Affects the look of your sofa

What I appreciate about this Lovinouse cat furniture protector

This cat furniture protector is great for most sofas, even if they are L-shaped.  I love the fact that it is easy to clean and maintain. Also, the set-up is fast. I mean, just a few ropes and a couple of pins, and you are done.

This handy protector will help to keep fur and mess off your leather which is always a nightmare to get rid of, without this, right?

It also uses sisal material to attract your cat to scratch away at it. As you may know, cats love sisal, this is why so many cat trees (Click here for my best cat trees and to see why) and scratching posts (Click here to see how this can help to stop your cat scratching your walls) used it. I also appreciate the fact that it is so strong and durable.

In summary, if you want a sisal based leather protective cover that is easy to clean and works with L-shaped coaches, then this sounds like a good fit for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Lovinouse cat furniture protector

This cover is good, but I have to say the size of it concerns me a bit. Why? Well, it does not cover the entire coach, right?

So, some cats may just move to another area on your coach and get to work, are you with me? Also, it does not look excellent on a quality leather coach, are you with me?

Kitten Proof Railing Needed? (Here is How)

If you are worried about your kitten falling through the railing in your home (Click here to see the best solution for this, on Amazon), then you may be looking for a solution to get around this.

How can you kitten proof a railing?

To kitten proof your railings you need to cover the spaces with a protective screen or netting. Alternatively, you can try to block access upstairs or train your cat not to play near it, but this is often quite difficult to implement.

3 Ways to kitten proof your railings

Curious Siamese Kitten near railing

Curious Siamese Kitten near a railing

In this section, I will explain three ways that you can prevent your kitten from falling from the railings in your home. This will help you to decide what works best for you. Here are the three options…

  • Using a railing shield or guard (Best Option)
  • Deny your kitten access upstairs
  • Attempt to train her not play near it

Using a railing shield or guard (Best Option)

The best way, in my opinion, is to remove any chance of her falling by using a railing shield or guard. This is a simple but highly effective method of doing this. You can get shields that wrap around your railing (see the table above) to keep her safe.

Deny your kitten access upstairs

Another option is to completely deny your kitten upstairs. If it is implemented correctly, one could argue that it is fault-proof.

The problems with this method

The biggest issue with this method is implementing it. The reality is cats are curious, so if you try and stop them getting to a room or area of your home, you can guarantee they will find some way in there, are you with me? Also, this relies on a certain layout of your home to even make this feasible.

Attempt to train her not play near it

Another way to approach this is to train your kitten to steer clear of the railing to protect herself. This is with the belief that she will, in time, learn to protect herself.

The issue with this method

The problem with this method is the time it will take to work. And, in the meantime, while she is learning, she is likely to fall. And, this is exactly what you wanted to avoid, right?

My best 3 safety covers for your railing

In this section, I will share with you three of my best safety covers for your railings. These are screens or guards that will physically block the dangerous gaps in the railings that you are worried about, as discussed in method one above.

For each option I will explain exactly what I like and dislike about it, to help you decide what works best for you.

01. Cardinal Gates Banister Shield (Best choice)

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Clear screen
  • Protects railings, banisters, etc
  • Good height (33 inches)
  • Hand tearing proof (can be cut with scissors if needed)
  • Fits in with your existing decor

Cons:

  • It’s not very thick
  • The edges are a bit sharp

What I like about this Cardinal Gates Banister Shield

This screen is great for kittens, it is often used in other ways, such as for babies, and other small animals. But, either way, it’s ideal for kittens, in this context.

It has a clear screen, so it will fit in with the style of your current decor. It wraps around the railings to protect your kitten from having a fall from the railings. the height of the screen itself makes this easier to achieve.

It is also strong. It is designed so that you cannot tear it up using your hands. However, you can use scissors to trim it to size, obviously.

In summary, if you are looking for a clear screen that fits in with your decor, and has a great height this is the one for you.

What I dislike about this Cardinal Gates Banister Shield

Like most things, nothing is perfect. The issue I have with this is, its not that thick. It does the job, to be fair, but, I feel that it could be a bit thicker. Also, the edges are a tad bit sharp, in my opinion.

02. KidKusion Banister Guard

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple to set up
  • Nice height (33 inches)
  • Can be combined (if a bigger size needed)
  • Stops your kitten from falling
  • Securely attaches (Ties included)

Cons:

  • Quite thin
  • The hole punch is quite hard to use

What I love about this KidKusion Banister Guard

This is another rival screen that will help to protect your kitten from falling from the railings. It is simple to set up, so don’t worry about that. It is 33cm in height, so it should be fine for most railings.

Also, it can be combined if you need to make it bigger. I also appreciate the fact that they include the ties that you need to secure it. Believe it or not, some do not come with them.

In summary, if you are looking for a screen to protect your kitten that is simple to set up and comes with its own ties, this is a great choice for you.

What I do not love about this KidKusion Banister Guard

This screen comes with a hole punch to help you fit it, along with the ties. My issue is the hole punch is not that great. The reality is, you may need to use your own hole punch if you are struggling with it. Also, it is a bit thin.

03. 4UHeart Safety Netting

Click here for the price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Simple to install
  • Can be used indoors or outside
  • Stops your kitten falling
  • Strong & durable material
  • Easy to clean

Cons:

  • It may fray quite easily
  • You may need your own zip ties to secure it

What I appreciate about this 4UHeart Safety Netting

This is a safety netting product, rather than a screen. This is another option if you are not a fan of the screens, are you with me? It is simple to install, in case you are one of these people that hate DIY, like me.

It has strong durable material that will help to reduce the chances of your kitty falling from the railings. I also appreciate the fact that it is easy to clean.

In summary, if you are not a fan of the screens and want a netting that will protect your kitten then this sounds like a great option for you.

What I do not appreciate about this 4UHeart Safety Netting

This netting does the job, but you may need your own ties to fit it. Not a deal-breaker, but a bit annoying. Also, keep an eye on the ends, they seem like they could fray a bit with some time.

Related Questions:

In this section, I will answer some questions related to your cat’s behavior. If you have more questions feel free to contact me.

Do kittens naturally bond with other older cats?

No, kittens do not always naturally bond with older cats. In some cases, you may notice your kitten hissing at the older cat (Click here to see how to stop it). But, if you are lucky they may just get along right away.

Are most kittens relaxed and placid?

No, not all kittens are relaxed and placid. Some kittens are aggressive (Click here to see what to do). Unfortunately, it is not always obvious until you get the kitten home.
