In this section, you will learn what they are and the fact that they can be in two variations, that some people do not know.

According to Wikipedia, a blueberry muffin is a baked product that is designed for one serving. It comes in one of two forms:

  • Partly raised flatbread style
  • Traditional cupcake style

Partly raised flatbread style

This version looked a bit like a pancake but is slightly raised. It is cooked on a griddle and, unlike the traditional cupcake style, it is usually served unsweetened.

Traditional cupcake style

This is by far the most commonly known version. And, when I mentioned a blueberry muffin, the chances are, this came to mind (See the image above).

As mentioned earlier, it looks like a cupcake with blueberries in it and is often servers sweetened. It may shock you that I say “often”. But, believe it or not, it can also be served unsweetened using cheese and corn.

Are there any benefits of blueberry muffins?

Now that you know with the nutritional content of blueberry muffins you may be wondering what benefits they may offer for your cat, or in general. Therefore, in this section, I will explain what good, if any they possess.

Their biggest ingredient.

In general blueberry muffins offer very little benefit, apart from tasting delicious to us humans. But, their biggest asset is the blueberries that they are laced with. Many people regard them as a superfood (more on this later).

It would be better to eat those blueberries directly and avoid the muffin, but I will come onto that later.

Teeth and Bones

The blueberries in muffins help teeth and bone development. This is through their phosphorous and calcium content. In particular tooth enamel and gum health is helped with this addition.

Digestion & Urination

Another benefit of the blueberries in these muffins is the digestion, it helps with this. And, vitamin B helps with metabolizing energy. The phosphorous also helps to assist constipation, indigestion, and diarrhea.

Regarding the urination, it helps to increase the frequency and also helps to fight constipation.

In summary, the main benefit of blueberry muffins is the blueberry superfood contained in it, which has many positives.

Are there any risks with blueberry muffins?

Now that you have heard about the benefits of these muffins, you may be wondering if they are the perfect food, or if there are some risks associated with them. Let’s be honest, nothing is perfect, right?

Therefore, in this section, I will explain some of the risks and negatives with them.

Unhealthy content (Sugar, Calories, Fat, etc)

The biggest issue with blueberry muffins is the excessive amount of sugar, calories, and fat it has. Also, it has high sodium levels as well, to make matters worse.

The issue with this is obesity. Yes, they taste nice and the blueberries are good, but the other ingredients outweigh the positives. You would be much better off feeding your cat other food with better nutritional benefits.

Should your cat eat blueberry muffins?

Now that you have learned the content, benefits, and risks of blueberry muffins, you may be keen to understand my overarching view on them, should you give them to your cat?

No, I do not recommend that you give your cat blueberry muffins. Just because they can eat them, it does not mean that you should give it to them. For us humans, they are treats at best. But, for a cat, they should be avoided.

This is mainly because they have too many calories, fat, and sugar that can lead your cat to obesity.

Should a kitten eat blueberry muffins?

Now it is clear what my views are about these muffins for your cat. If you have a kitten you may be wondering if the same advice applies for them. Therefore, in this section, I will explain my opinion on this.

No, I do not advise you to feed your kitten blueberry muffins. I would be even more cautious with kittens because they are so young and growing. So, avoiding sodium, sugar, and fat in blueberries is a good idea.

What can I feed my cat if I run out of cat food?

If you run out of cat food you can feed your cat cooked beef, chicken, or turkey. You can also consider offering him deli meats, but this needs to be in moderation. Raw or gone off meat should be avoided at all costs.

The best way to avoid running out of cat food is to make sure you re-order before it’s done. It may seem obvious in hindsight. But, when you open the serving before last, its time to consider re-ordering. This can avoid you from running out.

Do feral cats eat Blueberry Muffins?

Yes, feral cats do eat blueberry muffins. But, the chances are they will not each much because they have to find them first. Feral cats will eat pretty much whatever they can find when they are scavenging for food.

Can cats eat blueberry yogurt?

Cats should not be fed blueberry yogurt. This is because it has a high sugar content and offers no nutritional benefits. The only benefit is the blueberries they have, which are better served on their own, rather than in yogurt.
