Some cats do like the smell of leather, while others are not keen. For those that love it, they will spend time sleeping or resting there. However, if they do like it, there is a good chance they will want to scratch or even pee on it.

Will cats ruin a leather couch?

Cats are very likely to ruin a leather couch. If you are lucky they will just relax there. But, other times they will mark it with urine, or scratch it to shreds.

If this happens you will have to decide if it’s worth keeping. If it is you will need to look at some options to protect it so that you can keep it for as long as possible.

Do cats pee on leather furniture?

Cats do pee on leather furniture. This is usually to mark their territory. They do this as a way to claim it or to keep other cats away from it. It may sound unnecessary for an indoor cat in particular.

To be truthful, it is unnecessary. But, in the cat’s mind, and its world, this is a must to claim its territory and comfort zone.

Can I spray Febreze on leather?

Febreze can be used on some leather, but it is not recommended by many manufacturers. And, it’s important to check the label or directly with your manufacturer before going ahead in case of any adverse effects.

Are cats attracted to leather furniture?

Cats love the comfort and texture of your leather furniture, especially your coach. The best way to deal with this is to protect it with a cover. Alternatively, hide or replace your leather furniture, but this is not ideal for most people.

How to protect your leather furniture from your cat

In this section, I will explain a few options that you can consider to stop your cat from scratching your leather furniture up. One is by far my best, and I will explain why shortly. Here are the options:

• Replace your furniture
• Hide the furniture in a separate room
• Distraction

01. Cover the leather furniture (Best option)

If you are really worried about your leather, you need to protect it, in my opinion. There are many ways to this. But, the one that stands out to me is using a cat protector cover (see the table above). This will physically cover the entire leather sofa or a part of it (more on this later).

02. Replace your furniture

Another way to guarantee no damage is to take extreme measures and replace your leather furniture with another material. But, not many people want to do this.

The problem with this option

Although this is guaranteed to work it is not what most people want. Why? Because leather is expensive and quality, right? And, it would be costly to replace it. Also, you may not want to settle for second best, right? Especially when there are other options available.

03. Hide the furniture in a separate room

Another option, for those that do not want to get rid of their leather, is to hide it in a separate room. The idea is to restrict access to this room so your cat cannot get to it.

The problem with this method

Let’s face it, cats are curious, right? Meaning, what are the chances that they will eventually find their way into this room someday? I would say quite likely. My grandma has tried this system for years and I often see her cat lounging in this room.

04. Distract your cat

Another option you can try is a distraction. this can be as simple as offering your cat a cat tree (Click here to see the reviews, on Amazon #Ad), a toy (Click here to see the price, on Amazon #Ad), or another object to take its attention away from your leather furniture.

In this section, I will share with you three leather furniture protectors to keep your cat at bay. This will keep it safe and allow you to still enjoy it. For each option, I will explain what I like and do not like to make your decision easier.

• Fits most sofas (Elastic edges, flexible)
• Prevents dust pollution
• Can be used to keep kids off, as as well as cats
• Simple to clean (Just wipe it down)
• Blends in with your existing decor

Cons:

• Not waterproof (urine can get through)
• It Will need to be removed to enjoy the leather

What I like about this Kebe cat furniture protector

This cat leather protector covers your entire leather coach so there is no room for error. It fits most sofas with its flexible and elastic edges. It is great to stop her clawing up your sofa, but also basic things like repelling dust and fur, are you with me?

As well as your cat you can also use it to keep your kid’s grubby hands off your expensive leather coach, are you with me?

I love the fact that it is so easy to clean. I mean, you just need to wipe this thing down and you are done. Also, because it is see-through, it blends in with your existing decor.

In summary, if you are looking for a protective cover that will cover your entire coach, also keep the dust and fur off, then this sounds like you will like this.

What I dislike about this Kebe cat furniture protector

Like most great things, nothing is perfect. I am not sure if it’s just me, but I don’t feel that this is as waterproof as you may think. Personally, I wouldn’t want to test cat urine on it, are you with me?

Also, let’s be honest, to really enjoy the comfort of your leather, you will need to remove this cover. Which, for some people, may be a bit annoying.

Pros:

• Removable and also reusable
• Deters cats (they hate this plastic texture)
• Protects against stains (including wine, urine, etc)
• Really thick and durable
• Claw-resistant material

Cons:

• Does not work with L-shaped sofas
• Unlikely to accommodate a reclining sofa

What I love about this Homemaxs Cat Protector cover

This offering by Homemaxs is another full cover protector for your coach, to keep her off your prized leather. It is a removable and reusable cover that you can use over and over.

Cats hate this plastic. So, not only will it physically protect your leather, it will repel her from even using it, are you with me? It can protect your leather from stains and spillages such as wine, cat urine, etc.

I love the fact that it is so thick and durable and has claw-resistant material.

In summary, if you want a thick and durable cover that will repel your cat from your precious leather furniture, then this is a great choice.

What I do not love about this Homemaxs Cat Protector cover

As much as I love this, I have to say, if you have an L-shaped couch, it will not be the one for you. Also, for reclining coaches, I can’t see this working either.

03. Lovinouse cat furniture protector

Pros:

• Simple to clean & maintain
• Easy to set up (quickly attach ropes & pins)
• Keeps the fur & mess of your leather
• Natural sisal (directs your cats scratching to it)
• Strong & durable material

Cons:

• Some cats may avoid this and still use your coach
• Affects the look of your sofa

What I appreciate about this Lovinouse cat furniture protector

This cat furniture protector is great for most sofas, even if they are L-shaped.  I love the fact that it is easy to clean and maintain. Also, the setup is fast. I mean, just a few ropes and a couple of pins, and you are done.

This handy protector will help to keep fur and mess off your leather which is always a nightmare to get rid of, without this, right?

It also uses sisal material to attract your cat to scratch away at it. As you may know, cats love sisal, this is why so many cat trees (Click here for my best cat trees and to see why) and scratching posts (Click here to see how this can help to stop your cat scratching your walls) used it. I also appreciate the fact that it is so strong and durable.

In summary, if you want a sisal-based leather protective cover that is easy to clean and works with L-shaped coaches, then this sounds like a good fit for you.

What I do not appreciate about this Lovinouse cat furniture protector

This cover is good, but I have to say the size of it concerns me a bit. Why? Well, it does not cover the entire coach, right?
